05/2/2018 09:44 | Anyway, apart from the fact that retired people have done their bit paying in, can we now keep this thread on the merits or otherwise of LEG please? | professor pettigrew
05/2/2018 09:28 | Brad, you've been paying for those not in work, namely retired people, thats how it works. Those in employment pay the cost for everyone, there is no pot that money goes in to withdraw as you need it. Hence as a greater percentage of the population gets older, we need immigration to pay for the NHS to look after them. Without it we're screwed. Also we should pay more tax, most of the problems are a legacy of the Thatcher years of reducing tax levels to win votes. Hence todays Lib Dem proposal is a good one. | soupdragon55

05/2/2018 08:29 | The E111 card no longer exists - and hasn't done for 11 years ! | chinese investor
05/2/2018 08:24 | When you use an E111 card the host country then uses the EU mechanism to claim back costs from the nation of the passport holder. So if you use a hospital in France they then are paid by the NHS. Same when someone from France uses the NHS, the NHS then bill the French authority. | soupdragon55
05/2/2018 08:22 | Patients aged 65 to 69 - so called "baby boomers" - made up the single largest group of patients, with some 1.3 million admissions in 2015-16, according to figures released today by NHS Digital.Http://conte | soupdragon55
05/2/2018 08:20 | So there is no point in the EU's E111 card then? Anyway, we digress. My only interest in the NHS at the moment, is Virtualstock's involvement in it, and my point is that the complete mess the NHS is in, will surely prompt a faster and broader take-up of what VS have to offer. Perhaps we could make a start on savings by sacking most of the useless and unneeded managers. In days of yore, when it actually worked, we had Matron's to run hospitals, not stupid money wasting idiots like "bed managers". The whole country is a lunatic asylum. Rant over. Onwards and upwards. | professor pettigrew
05/2/2018 08:20 | I would hate to think foreigners will be taking advantage of "The Edge". That should be for English people only. | chinese investor
05/2/2018 08:15 | PP you are aware of how NI works, those in work pay for those using. And yes, look at the NHS stats, the rising age of the population is the greatest challenge they face. It's a well known fact that those coming into the country use the service less as they are younger and healthier. As for health tourism, the NHS can claim back the costs from the respective countries, thus it should be cash neutral. This is what other countries do with Brit immigrants in France and Spain etc. | soupdragon55
05/2/2018 08:04 | BIT COld IN some parts. | michaelsadvfn
05/2/2018 07:57 | I don't particularly like your assessment soup. So, basically according to you it's the elderly who are now a burden on the NHS? Not "health tourists" or the sheer amount of people here? Baby boomers have worked and paid their tax and NI so are entitled to be looked after. That's what the NHS was set up for. I hope you aren't one of those who want the older generation gone, or one of those who play on the differences between the generations. For what it's worth I think the young generation have it tough compared to my generation, but that's not my fault. Blame politicians and greedy landlords. | professor pettigrew
05/2/2018 07:55 | Jolly cold again in Banstead. Not to worry , I won't be going out. The thought of not sitting on a £100k loss keeps me warm. | bionicdog
05/2/2018 07:49 | Perhaps we can start with the trolls then. They won't be missed. | professor pettigrew |
