Tantalum Capacitor Market: Region-wise Outlook

The global tantalum market in terms of market value is projected to grow two fold by the end of 2025 with significant growth rate. In terms of value and volume Asia Pacific dominates the global tantalum market as the electronic industry which is the parent market is booming in China and South Korea.

Good to see that the company is taking things seriously with the recent appointments. Not a flash in the pan thing with quality appointments to take the company forward. They obviously mean business and intend to make the mine a truly viable option. As said before the announcement of mining commencing will trigger the next hike.

Tantalum is a mineral increasingly important in the 21st Century, because it plays a large role in making personal electronic devices smaller, and it naturally fights corrosion. Its main use is in making capacitors and high power resistors.

It is also used to make alloys to increase strength, ductility and to resist corrosion. The metal is also used in dental and surgical instruments and implants, as it causes no immune response.

To underline the commercial viability of this commodity.....


Tantalum is a specialty metal used in electronics, especially for capacitors, but also has applications in chemical and nuclear power plants, aircraft and missiles. The company is mining Tabba Tabba for tantalum in a joint venture with the tantalum processing specialist Nagrom and has a five-year offtake agreement with Global Advanced Metals, a leading supplier of tantalum products to industry. (Before buying into a company that mines speciality metals, always look for the offtake agreement: buyers can sometimes be tricky to find.)

In its first year of Tabba Tabba, PLS is expected to generate earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation of $6 million, which will be used to bring on stream the larger Strelly deposit.

Samples from Pilgangoora are being tested in China, Germany and North America to see if they will be economic for the retrieval of tantalum and lithium. If they scrub up well, PLS could be producing lithium for lithium-ion batteries.

nice to see tantalum trade continued by other players
shows that the market (price-wise) is still economic

not like iron ore, where many mines are mothballed
