first time for a while that I tried a short using a CFD as KAZ seemed overbought at over 860 on back of the weak copper price . Just closed out at 839 but usually I do
not have a shorting mentality . now recovering at 844 butno encouragement from copper price yet.

Apparently it is the pharmas, the healthcare and the milk producers who are going to be hurt by US tariffs on steel and copper. Miners are only producing metals...

Good luck with VED and I notice it has fallen in last 4 days and chart support at
about 700 . Quite a turnaround in FTSE after UK close on friday aided by dow turnaround and S&p and nasdaq where slightly up on the day . hope it helps mining

Most of KAZ's copper are sent to Northwest China where the demand for copper is insatiable. Hard to link copper (very tight market) with steel and aluminium which are plenty.

Trumps tariffs could be an opportunity for shorters to take positions. Falls could be pretty decent "if" tariffs are coming.

arja, you are my favourite kittie here. I'd suggest you look at the weekly copper chart and draw some trend lines. One is still giddy over copper.

DYOR remember shares can go down even further than you expect.

Kittie out.

Glencore chief feeds copper bulls with talk of ‘massive under-investmentR17; in new mines.

Thanks to its marketing and trading arm, Glencore has a better feel than most for what’s going on out there in commodity markets. And because of the confidence that comes from having a big stake in the company, Glencore boss Ivan Glasenberg doesn’t waffle on the subject like so many of the paid servants at other miners do.

Glasenberg was his adroit self when running through the commodity outlook at Glencore’s profit result call this week. The highlight had to be his thoughts on copper.

“We all know that demand for copper is going to go up, that’s the copper market today, around about 23m tonnes,” he said.

“If we get 2 to 3% demand growth around the world, depending on what happens in China, you’re talking about another 500,000 tonnes, 600,000 tonnes of copper being required per year.

“If you look at the supply, we all know there’s been a massive under-investment in new mines in copper.”

Glasenberg noted that the only new mine coming on was First Quantum’s Cobre Panama. “But besides that, there’s been a total under-investment in new copper mines,” he said

Makes you wonder if there is a second leg in the copper price rise to come sometime soon, and if the idea that the ASX-listed copper producers and explorers are indeed fully priced, as most pundits suggest, is on the money.

Plus, Piedmont looking to tap into US auto industry with its made-in-America lithium and Kirkland’s stunning Fosterville shows it is on track to be Australia’s best gold mine. Read more +
