11/12/2016 23:29 | Copper price jump: China concentrate imports hit record Frik Els | 3 days ago | 1,861 | 0 Copper price jump: China concentrate imports hit record Chinese refiners are lining up for copper The copper price hit an 18-month high on an intraday basis last week as global manufacturing activity continues to pick up and hopes about US president-elect Trump's $500 billion infrastructure plans lift sentiment. Copper price jump: China concentrate imports hit recordWhile it's pulled back from those levels since, official customs data from China, responsible for some 45% of global consumption of the red metal, released on Thursday is seeing the metal turn positive again. In overnight trade on Friday copper for delivery in March, the most active contract, was exchanging hands for $2.6575 per pound ($5,858 a tonne), up 1.2% from Thursdays close on the Comex market in New York. While China's copper imports surged 31% to 380,000 tonnes in November compared to October, shipments were down 18% year on year. Concentrate imports however hit an all-time high last month of of 1.76 million tonnes. Year to date shipments are up 31% year on year at 15.4 million tonnes. After vastly underperforming other metals and steelmaking raw materials in 2016, copper has been playing catch-up and is now up 37% from six-year lows hit mid-January this year. | smurfy2001
10/12/2016 13:57 | BBD, I think there might be a market correction around 20k DOW.KAZ definitely going in the right direction.. I think minimum 600 sometime next year... but been going on a steep straight line will bring in some profit takers... including myself.Still have a fair few here but will trade the ups and downs aswell as holding the long term ones. | losses
10/12/2016 09:43 | £2 - £3 around 5 weeks. £3 - £4 around 5 weeks. £4 - £5 middle of January?? £5 - £6 end of February?? Not guaranteed of course but the steepness of the chart is a thing if beauty. Production report at end of January to also add into the equation. | bigbigdave
09/12/2016 15:42 | Stepped out of KAZ today. Will wait and see which way copper decides to go, as there appear to be some potential turns midweek [next week]. Will post chart a bit nearer the time, when we can hope to see which way it will go. Cheers | bamboo2
09/12/2016 15:09 | Though it is hard to average down and scary when the price makes continual new lows. I ran out of money averaging down..... Luckily I got it down to the 2.80ish level nonetheless. I think if you very held it this long perhaps just keep holding rather than average down, if the possibility of a collapse concerns you alifish. Having said that I was totally reckless with my average downs and seems to for the moment to be working out. | racg
09/12/2016 14:07 | Debt was the big worry and the reason the share price crashed last year.(Ditto for Glencore). Surely KAZ's new low cost mines along with copper price recovery mean the debt can now be reduced as profits flow in. Market obviously taking this view and hence the share price rocketing since the 120p low in July. It always was fairly obvious that KAZ would reach this stage, but it took longer than expected for the market to wake up to that! Anyone thinking of averaging down would have been far better doing so when the share was much lower despite nothing but good news this year. For the same outlay as now average downers could have bought more than 3 times as many shares! | kenmitch
09/12/2016 10:26 | Mmmmm, well it could be if copper dives again. Or problems with production arises. Or if the lenders found a spurious breach or non spurious breach of the terms and called the debt in early. Or if they cannot reschedule 2018. But then it's Hobson's Choice really. | racg
09/12/2016 09:33 | is the debt a big worry here anyone- i let this one run and i dont know if i have missed the boat - i am tempted to average down but still hesitant | ali47fish
08/12/2016 19:06 | Agreed LM, no chart resistance until 7/8 quid. | bigbigdave
