it's 40p more than the current share price and a reduction of just under 7% better than the russian renegotiation of 12%.

Ridiculous. It's bad enough that the board would recommend a low offer of 290p, but now they're appealing to be allowed to recommend a lower offer? The RNS really needs to explain why; just saying "following the earthquake and incident at Fukushima" doesn't explain why we should accept less money for our assets. Is the uranium going to generate less electricity?

If China are waiting for an ASIC decision on a follow through bid on Extract, then, if no decision has yet been made (RNSable I guess), then maybe no news until australia wakes up tonight?

WTI RNS - they're cool with it too.

The Minister has advised the Chamber of Mines of Namibia on 29 April 2011 that any new policy will not apply to current licenses and will therefore not affect existing Exclusive Prospecting Licences ("EPLs"), Mining Licences ("MLs"), and Mineral Deposit Retention Licences ("MDRLs").

China bid causes Extract Resources trading halt

Sarah-Jane Tasker
From: The Australian
May 03, 2011 12:00AM

EXTRACT Resources shares have been placed in a trading halt ahead of an announcement on China's bid for the uranium company's major shareholder.

The shares, which last traded at $6.68, were halted as Extract waited for the information on Chinese state-owned CGNPC Uranium Resources' offer for Kalahari Minerals, which has a 43 per cent stake in Extract.

Because of Kalahari's stake, CGNPC is seeking relief from the Australian Securities & Investments Commission to acquire a relevant interest in more than 20 per cent of Extract.

The regulatory deadline was yesterday, but there was no sign from China or ASIC as to whether the application was granted. Extract requested the trading halt until tomorrow.

Extract's independent directors had asked ASIC not to grant CGNPC's request, or that it be conditional on CGNPC's offer for Kalahari being extended to all Extract shareholders.

Mining giant Rio Tinto, which operates the Rossing uranium mine neighbouring Extract's project, has a 14.2 per cent stake in Extract and has been regarded as a rival bidder if China is forced to move on Extract. The Namibia-focused company said it was confident its Husab project would not be adversely affected by proposed changes to Namibia's minerals policy.Extract's shares were punished by investors last week on speculation that changes to the mining policy would affect its operation but the Namibian government said late on Friday the new policy would not apply to current licences.

"Extract continues to have regular and positive consultation with the government of Namibia in relation to its Husab uranium project," the company told the Australian Securities Exchange.

An article posted on the GCM thread:

Southern Guangdong province, the nation's manufacturing hub, may face shortages of as much as 6.5 million kilowatts this summer, Xinhua News Agency said Friday, citing Li Xiangming, deputy head of the local economic and information commission.

Then it goes on to talk about coal...

doubts about the now apparently over-inflated price

With due respect to the journalist, I think that's nonsense. For the asset, it's a bargain price. The wobbles over Fukushima are temporary, and the only other factor is the Namibian govt's clumsy handling of the Epangelo issue. Wasn't there going to be a clarification issued on Friday by Namibia?

It's unravelling fast. My minimum price target of 400p now looks highly unlikely. It's disappointing but I shouldn't complain having bought the bulk of my stock at around 30p and I have been reducing since last Nov because I've never been totally happy with the decision to go mining. As soon as it became apparent what a huge find it was a for sale sign should have been put up by KAH imo. Our only hope now looks like another low-ball bid from Rio unless there's someone else waiting in the wings and we get some kind of auction.

It was stated on 'Russia Today' that China has decided to reduce its huge dollar reserves by investing $2 trillion dollars buying up foreign assets.

KAH is evidently part of this strategy.

No chance 230p would get them anywhere. The demand for uranium is still there and they will need to be offering 290p. Even at 290p Im not sure they will be successful in their bid without waking Rio imho.

Dont forget we also have the MORE programme going on soon which could 'significantly' increase the resource size...

I don't think they could get away with that, Cyfalafwr. The board would have to reject it and the CHinese would pay the break fee.

Does today's graph suggest that the Chinese are looking at a new price of 230p ?
