Whilst the acquisition @ 5 x pre tax profit is a great find by DC, the other positive from this, like all the others before it, is the tax credits that come with it. Net tangible assets of £3m against the purchase price of £8.28m to £9.79m means another £5.28m to £6.79m worth of pre tax profit to amortise over the coming years. If you take this away from the purchase price at say 25% tax rate, the real cost of the acquisition is between £6.96m and £8.09m. That makes it even more of an extroadinary acquisition.

Interesting Hambro has used it as an opportunity to sell 15000? Presumably because up to now was inside information? That aside looks very cheap and if past is anything to go by will prop up the organic growth. For what it's worth back in first thing this morning at 1600 given the purchase not being reflected in the price (prev sales at 2000 as posted previously so not sold at top or got in at the bottom but hey ho!)

Fascinating that the share price increases by over 10% after a tip in SCSW and by 5% after an acquisition that adds 25% to operating profit!

Interesting in that it appears (from the shareprice used to determine the earnout) that the deal was agreed in May or June 14. No wonder they were confident on securing a deal in recent statements. Looks a good deal though approx £2m operating profit at decent margins. Earnout based on last years profits so you'd imagine they are in the bag!

...acquired 100% of the issued share capital of Armfield Limited ("Armfield"), a Hampshire-based instrument maker. Armfield designs and markets engineering equipment and research instruments for educational applications, together with research and development systems focused on the food, beverage, dairy, vegetable oils and pharmaceutical industries. Another excellent acquisition - well done! Let's see how it benefits us over the next 18 months.

Decent update today I thought certainly compared to the outlook at the interim stage. hTTp://www.investegate.co.uk/judges-scientificplc--jdg-/rns/trading-statement/201501200700105707C/ Particularly liked the: 'fully able to pursue its acquisition strategy and to continue dividend growth' line.

CR: All you say is true - as you know I owe U one for your advice when these were back sub £1. (blended exit at over 600% Thanks. (Edited I had missed some of the earlier sales which resulted in an overstated %age - Memo self - Double check figures before postign. but helps to make up for some of the massive losses suffered in the oilers etc. While the fall in the price of oil will I agree should give a signifcant boost to consumer spending power we have the massive uncetainty of the election coming up in the UK plus uncerainty in the Eurozone - plus a slow down in China - The strengthening USD is putting pressure on Asia - I am just feeling nervous so collecting some dry powder - Cookerhoop - Yes re funding and has had a significant affect on share price - Hence my comment re valuation. PRES is an interesting situation which I am watching closely but having difficulty calculating a fair value at the moment. Unless and until some positive news I feel it will continuetot fall with the oil sevices sector so not getting back in yet. Pugugly, I think the RNS of 23/12/14 is likely to be a prelude to a further acquisition -which of course is part of the companys business model. David C has yet to overpay so as soon as the purchased company is integrated earnings are valued at JDG's rating rather than to price paid adding value. This is also apparent at PRES where sector fears are currently obscuring some shrewd looking acquisitions by John Hayward.

You don't think the £4bn that's going into the UK economy from a petrol price drop and similar from supermarket wars isn't going to boost the UK retail sector Pug? And it should boost Europe even more imo as they don't tax fuel as highly the percentage drop is greater. And their economies don;'t lose out through lower oil revenues as they don't have much. The lower £ alone should boost the current 2015 forecasts for JDG imo and if they use that borrowing facility to buy strongly earnings enhancing acquisitions then that will boost them even more imo. 90p eps for this year could see significant hikes if so imo. A stock that has comfortably traded on PE's into the 20's in the past. All imo/dyor etc. CR

Class act - not at all surprised these are up nicely today. Acquisitions bought with 'cash' - that's the right way to do it rather than diluting with loads of shares imo. Had my eye on these to buy back in as soon as the £ started retreating and glad to have got back in a few weeks ago on a chart low. Was a nice ride from £1 last time I was holding :-) All imo/dyor etc. CR

Pugugly, I'm interested that you have sold today...........you appeared to have had negative views on the company when the share price was approx £12.50 suggesting that it would go lower (from memory below £10.00) so i'm intrigued that you didn't sell then if holding at that point and if you were buying it doesn't really fit with your posts. Perhaps you could explain?

MM80 I take your point and will be slower to make general comments in future, but I have not posted any new information regarding those shares. Both have been tipped many times over the last few years.
