Fantastic news today. The Kerch bridge has been hit badly. It's going to take weeks to repair and this will hamper resuppyling the soldiers in Kherson region.
The Russians, the best liars in the world, claiming it was a truck bomb. Michael Clarke ridiculing this of course saying it was either a missile or an operation by Ukraine special forces. If it was a missile it almost certainly means the western allies have supplied Ukraine with longer range weapons.

Let's see how Russia replies. A nuclear strike would be suicide for Putin in my opinion but they might fire some cruise missiles into some hospitals or apartment blocks in Kiev. That's more their style.

If one listens to many of Putin's speeches 2004 to 2008, he often talks about integrating Russia with Europe's economy.

The United States is willing to go to any means to stop the integration of Russia with Europe and will go to any means to stop Europe from getting cheap energy from Russia as they have already stop Europe from getting cheap energy from Libya leaving Europe having to buy very expensive LNG from the United States.

The United States is profiteering from the sale of their LNG to Europe.

The United States is not interested in peace in the Ukraine as for the United States, the Ukraine is just a big money laundering scheme as Afghanistan was before.

It was the United States who bugged Merkel's phone and not China.

The United States says to China "you can build our high tech phones etc' be Coolies to the United States but not Players."

NATO is to keep the United States in, Germany Down and Russia Out, its as simple as that.

It is the United States who are the 'bad actors' on the world stage and therefore the quicker the United States can be pushed out of world affairs the better for the rest of the World and especially the better for Europe.

The MOEX Russia Index extended losses and tanked nearly 4% to close at 1,945 on Friday, ending the week slightly lower near the five year-low hit September 26 as investors continued to gauge the effects that recent geopolitical developments may have on the Russian economy.

Earlier in the week, the European Union agreed to a price cap Russian seaborne oil ahead of the outright embargo due early in 2023, pressuring the outlook of energy revenues as heavier-weighing clients in Asia will have increased bargaining power.

Among single stocks, Gazprom fell 5.3%. The gas giant is expected to book even sharper losses on Monday as it will be trading ex-dividend to start next week, with payments to shareholders carrying the stock until Friday set for a record-breaking RUB 51 per share.

Latest sanctions mean UK law firms cannot conduct any transactional work for Russians.

In response to the Russian leader’s advancement on Ukraine territory, the UK government has announced for the first time in history, that law firms will no longer be able to provide “transactional legal advisory services”.

The MOEX Russia index traded 1% higher on Thursday, after snapping a three-day winning streak in the previous session.

Brent crude, Russia's key export revenue source traded above $93 per barrel and is up nearly 10% this week, after OPEC+ agreed to cut production by 2 million barrels per day, the most since the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, investors continue to assess new sanctions. The European Union approved a new package of sanctions against Russia, including a price cap on Russian oil shipped to third countries and mechanisms to avoid circumvention of sanctions.

Ukrainian population census from 2001. You will note that there isn't a single region in Ukraine (barring the city of Sevastopol) where 65-95% of the population considered themselves to be Russian. And, as explained, being a Russian or Russian speaker in Ukraine doesn't necessarily mean they support political union with Russia.

I'm going to filter this idiot now as time is precious to me and he just wastes it. Wont be able to see the board as a result but would encourage everyone to DYOR with respect to absolutely everything that he posts.

What's your point? There are tens of millions of Chinese people living outwith China who consider themselves Chinese.

"the United States conducted a regime change in 2014."

Ah yes. Literally a couple of CIA operatives in Ukraine managed to oust the in place, Kremlin backed, multi billionaire dictator. The uprising only happened because there was massive popular support for it. I've no doubt the CIA tried to encourage it in some way. Just doing their job. The Russians do the same. To say the United States conducted a regime change just shows your ignorance and stupidity.

In these areas between 65% and 95% of people consider themselves as Russian and voted for pro-Russian candidates in elections up until the United States conducted a regime change in 2014.

Back to reality

USA new aid package:
4 more HIMARS including M30A1 fragmentation missiles
16 more M777 155mm towed howitzers
200 more MaxxPro MRAPs

France sending 12 more Ceasers

All these out range and highly accurate vs Russian artillery so counter battery superiority clearly on Ukraine side now

European borders have always been changing over the years, however since the inception of the EEC, the EU charter mandates that borders can not change. This is rather like an earthquake zone that's had no earthquakes for a long time so when one does come a long its going to be a devastatingly big powerful one, instead of lots of little ones over the years which cause very little damage or harm.

The West has seem to have accepted Kosovo independence from Serbia. Naturally they would as the EU don't like Serbia very much as Serbia is on the side of Russia.

If Belgium split the chances are the Southern French speaking area would wish to join France while the Northern Flemish speaking area would try and go it alone.

The main problem is what to be done about Brussels which is 50/50 Flemish/French in the Flemish area of Belgium and also where both the EU and NATO are headquartered.

Corsica have said they basically want to be an independent country with in France so France would keep subsidising the island and paying the islanders welfare benefits and pensions while at the same time keeping out of Corsican politics and affairs.

"It seems to me the main reason for Western countries not accepting these referendums in the Ukraine is Spain would have to hold one in Catalonia and maybe other regions of Spain."

It is not a "maybe".
If referendums were a right/option then the following places would have independence votes.

(Whether those regions would go un to economic collapse or not if they became independent & then ask to cancel independence (would that be a 'right' ?!), is another question !

Catalunya
Basque region
Ballearic islands
Canary Islands
Galicia

Corsica
Regions of Belgium

Scotland, again
Wales
Northern Island

Bavaria ?
Hungarian regions in other addjacent countries

Ad infinitum.

Way Russian lines collapsing soon be in Ukrainian hands again anyway
Not that I blame Russian soldiers, just being intelligent, know they shouldn't die for a pointless war for war criminal Putin & his muppets
Any secondary effects of the war and sanctions are completely at Putin and his muppets door. They started the war and are to blame for all its many repercussions. Not that they care about anyone dying anywhere as they have so clearly shown

brwo349- the capital city of Kyiv is also predominantly Russian speaking. Mayor Klychko decided he would try to speak Ukrainian after being elected to office - considering its not his first language he does pretty well actually.

This is what the Western sanctions on Russia are doing to the poor countries around the world that will most probably lead to hundreds of thousands of deaths in these countries...

There’s little LNG supply available until 2026. Many spot cargoes are currently going to Europe, where buyers are willing to pay high prices in the rush to secure gas to replace dwindling Russian pipeline flows. That’s leaving developing nations facing energy shortages and economic uncertainty for years.
