16/1/2024 10:32 | Most posters compare Russia's cheapest blend of oil Urals with one of United States best blends and therefore most expensive blends WTI. Today, WTI is around $73, meanwhile the average price of all the blends in the United States is some where in the mid $60's, with quite a few blends in the $50's, therefore it seems to me reasonable to say its unreasonable to always compare Urals with WTI. It seems to me reasonable to compare Russia's ESPO or SOKOL blend with WTI as they are near enough equivalent quality of blends. Currently ESPO is trading 2% above WTI while SOKOL is trading 2% below. | loganair
16/1/2024 10:11 | It looks like over the past week another brigade has left Kiev leaving the city with just 3 brigades to protect it. This time last year Kiev had 12 brigades plus protecting the city. At this rate, the Russians will be able to walk into Kiev with a pop gun to take the city. | loganair

15/1/2024 09:47 | Another thing I've notice is how Kiev is defended by half the number of brigades it was even just 6 months ago, shows these troops have had to be pushed forward to defend the front lines and how short of men the Ukraine really is. More and more, Ukrainians on the front lines are refusing orders to attack the Russians or advance towards the Russian lines, all they are now willing to do is to defend their positions. | loganair
15/1/2024 09:07 | The MOEX Russia index rose by 0.3% to 3195 on Monday, advancing for the fourth session, driven by expectations of dividends and cooler-than-expected inflation data. According to the latest report, Russia's annual inflation rate slowed to 7.4% in December from 7.5% in the previous month, defying market expectations of 7.6% and supporting the case for the earlier interest rate cuts by the CBR. Among sectors, telecommunications and IT rose the most. As for individual stocks, GLTR (5.9%), Ozon (3.3%), Seligdar (1.9%), and Alrosa (1.7%) were the top gainers. The former increased after it became known that the investment company AQNIET Capital LLP bought out the shares of the three main shareholders of Globaltrans Investment PLC and now indirectly owns 26.19%. In contrast, Lukoil (-0.5%), Sovcomflot (-0.5%), and Magnit (-0.4%) dropped. | loganair
14/1/2024 22:26 | No healthcare either in the circus UK Intelligence says Russians feel impact of war on healthcare Sun, January 14, 2024 at 11:38 AM GMT·1 min read The UK Ministry of Defence said the Russian population is experiencing the impact of Russia's war against Ukraine on healthcare in Russia. Details: Russian media reported that it was challenging for the population to access hospital services across the country. There are also reports of medical supplies shortages, including broad-spectrum antibiotics. The war is likely having a significant impact on this situation, as hospitals are treating wounded soldiers, UK Defence Intelligence believes. The Russian government has also been forced to downsize civilian medical facilities across the country due to medical staff shortages and financial hardship | 1917again

14/1/2024 12:24 | Russian fighter jets are built to be able to take off from roads whereas even the old F16s the Ukrainians are being given require proper runways to operate from. Over the past few days the Russians have destroyed the maintenance hangers/bases that the F16s were going to use in the Ukraine. Even the Ukrainians are now acknowledging that 95% of all Russian missile/drone attacks are getting through compared to this time last year when they're reporting they were shooting down 90% of said attacks shows that the Ukrainian air defences have completely collapsed. | loganair

With Congress blocking funding for Ukraine, there is renewed impetus in Washington to find other sources of long-term financial support.
