The current share price in light of the recent trading update looks low but I hope the short sellers don't know something that we don't know about the upcoming results.

What small and mid cap stocks might stand up to a recession?

Here are some highlights from Peel Hunt's list and selected quotes from its accompanying report. Find a full rundown of its stock picks below.

Retailers

We expect demand for sports fashion to be robust through a recession: certainly footwear has proved to be in the past, and we see no reason, given the demographic and its habits, why this should change.

JD Sports Fashion has a younger demographic, and we believe that will prove helpful.

We have always thought that the last three things to 'go' in a recession are the Sky Sports Subscription, the monthly new pair of trainers, and the dog.

Yep, I think it’s been brewing, but is still a concern.

Are we allowed to post web links?
The Guardian has a good article:

It's easy to see how institutional holders could have been upset. The sale of 10m shares in January, illegal contact with Footlocker and refusal to repay the Covid Loan. However the basic Business appears to be thriving and new Management may be just what is needed.

Suddenly glad that I didn’t buy more shares this week.

I don’t like abrupt changes; least of all at CEO level, and when the company has done so well under him.

JD had lost value in the eight years before Peter, but rallied 60 fold after, even with the financial crisis and covid. So, it’s hard to see how they’ll upgrade from here.

What concerns me is the following:
the Board is committed to ensuring that we have the highest standards of corporate governance and controls appropriate to a FTSE-100 company

Is the company up to the minimum standards to be listed in the FTSE?

Probably not the results, maybe a martin sorrell type expulsion as happened at wpp.

MartinC strange indeed. I fear something is boiling here in conjunction with the delayed earnings release.

A notable absence of effusive thanks for all Cowgirls years of service, which you might have expected on his retirement. Hmmm.

I assume that the price has been under pressure due to a big seller,, that being Pentland … imho

I hope the resignation has nothing to do with the upcoming earning release or the Foot Asylum thing

17m trade at the close UT'd at 112p
That's shafted the price.
Pretty unusual as it was up to 122p at 16:15.
Maybe associated with the RNS at 16:18 about splitting roles.
