Omerta

I have 3 brokers I use regularly. The online quote was about 6.5. I phoned to get them to phone around and see if there was any stock around at 6p. It took about 5 mins. They would charge £20 but worth the extra I am sure you would agree.
It looks like one mm has a willing seller. For me this is dipping the toe in. For this type of play I would normally invest about 10k. I was thinking of buying another 150k and putting in a 5p bid and see what happens. Depends how desparate he is to get out I suppose and how many he has.

Because of the wide 'touch' it again is showing as a sale. Would you mind saying if that was with an on - line broker?

There seems to be some Stock around.

Des,

Yes, the computer can only do the maths on the 'middle' price so your two purchases would have to show a tad over 6p before they would show as blue. If the previous 4 trades on the 17th were genuine sales, which looks likely then you were just fortunate that Selftrade (who must have done the business) came on offering 'cheap stock'. Mind you the 270/- got cancelled on the following Monday, suggesting they input the wrong number at 8.55am. and it should have been just the 170/- at the same time.
I shall be on the lookout for some 'cheap stock' myself

Omerta,

No I don't know why the rise in April. I was lucky to buy just before and sell over a third at the top. Obv wish I'd sold the lot.

Most recently bought 75k at just under 5.75p (near the bid) since when the price has firmed indicating that the seller is done (?). I was very surprised to see Selftrade offering me stock down at this level for a week or so (not so TDW for some reason) and couldn't resist adding to my holding.

All those trades at 5.75 and just under are shown as sells but they are actually buys if my trades are anything to go by (37.5k at 5.73 and 37.5k at 5.72).

Life on the Board again.!

Have been looking at the trading prices over the past 2/3 weeks since the figures. After easing a 1/2p on the 'bid to 5.5p in the couple of days after the announcement the sellers seems to have been taken out without any further damage to the 'bid' price. Just feels like someone is taking stock on board. AND this 'offer' price on the 'strip' of 6.75p is not correct hence the 6.5p just paid before the close for 20/- shares.
Improved cash position of £4.5m (£2.5m previously) and slightly better trading background = good time to consider taking it out if that is in someones game plan. Don't wait for further signs of a retail recovery. Point to bear in mind is that several directors paid 10.125p for a reasonable tranche of stock in April '08. Oh dear, timing could not have been worse >>>> but that's easy to say now.!! Can't remember why they shot to 9.5p in late April '09 Des, can you??

I'm really surprised how little attention this share gets. It relentlessly sinks to the bottom of my favourites list.

Cash generation remains strong, the Balance Sheet is very strong, there is the hidden pension surplus not included in the Balance Sheet (if they can manage to release it somehow) and the register speaks Takeover at the right price.

Recent forecasts have actually been upgraded whilst the share price has fallen back due to the exceptional (largely non-cash) charges announced in the Prelims.

I bought quite a few in the 4's, sold a third in the 9's and have bought back more than I sold in the 5's. Will hold and hope for a 12-15p takeover.

I know that Des but it was put on that sort of rating even though the balance sheet was very sound. Seems the MM's have no stock at these levels as umpteen shares are going better on very little trade.......

Expecting a Trading Update in the next couple of days. Retailers such as DEB doing better bodes well here.

Never going bust. Rock solid Balance Sheet.

PRESS DIGEST - Financial Times - Sept 9

CONSUMERS REIN IN SPENDING

The monthly survey from the British Retail Consortium is to reveal a rainy August added to the gloom permeating Britain's retail sector with consumers continuing to rein in spending over the summer. Year-on-year growth in total sales values slowed from 1.7 per cent in July to 1.4 per cent in August. Sales from January to August were 2.6 higher than a year earlier but this compares to a growth rate of 4.7 per cent which retailers experienced in the first eight months of 2007. Policymakers and economists expect weaker consumer spending to drag down economic growth as householders have to deal with bigger fuel and food bills.
