Hello Rivaldo,

There have been a few quite sizable trades this week. Money is coming off the table across the market. It is anyone`s guess as to how far the market will fall.

There is, however, no reason to be gloomy about FSJ`s prospects . I am very tempted to add to my holding at around the current price.

FSJ continues to re-rate down on tiny volumes to more of a "value" rating. Meanwhile the world's largest tidal project continues to progress:

"Mojo to work on tidal project

12:15 pm, October 16, 2014

Mojo Maritime has signed a contract with James Fisher Marine Services Ltd (JFMS) to provide marine operational and engineering expertise to the construction phase of the MeyGen Inner Sound tidal project in Scotland.

Over the next two years, Mojo will work closely with JFMS carrying out the detailed design, planning and execution of the subsea cable, foundation and turbine installation.

Mojo MD, Richard Parkinson, said: “The MeyGen Inner Sound project represents a step change in the tidal energy industry and Mojo is delighted to be continuing its involvement.

“We are particularly pleased to be working with James Fisher Marine Services with whom we have an excellent relationship. Together, we are looking forward to delivering the world’s largest commercial tidal array.”

Construction is expected to commence later this year with first power to the grid in 2016."

Great vote of confidence for FSJ's Fendercare:

"Fendercare Marine Recognized for Support to NATO Warships

Posted on Oct 8th, 2014

World leading marine products and services supplier, Fendercare Marine recently received praise for their fendering support to a flotilla of NATO warships in the Port of Cardiff during the NATO summit.

Yokohama pneumatic fenders were supplied by Fendercare Marine for the two largest vessels – the French anti-submarine frigate La Motte-Picquet and the Royal Navy’s newest warship, the Type 45 destroyer HMS Duncan.

In total, 16 Yokohama pneumatic fenders (measuring 2.0m diameter. x 3.5m length) were used on the Type 45 destroyer HMS Duncan and 8 Yokohama pneumatic fenders (measuring 3.3m diameter. x 6.5m length) were used on the French anti-submarine frigate La Motte-Picquet.

Following the NATO summit, Commodore AJG Miller CBE, Royal Navy said “I would like to take this opportunity to offer my gratitude for the support that all those at Fendercare Marine provided to my men and women on the ground in support of the NATO Warships visiting Cardiff for the recent NATO summit. The final result was in no small part due to the hard work and commitment from yourself and all those at Fendercare.”

Fendercare Marine has been a supplier of fenders and marine hardware to the MoD since 1999 and also supports navies throughout the world, winning a $29 million contract with the US Navy in 2012. From a base in the Devonport Royal Dockyard in Plymouth, their Naval Solutions division also provides fabrication, welding and coating services for the MoD, having worked on nuclear submarines, warships and naval support vessels."

Interesting comment from Divex about current diving systems dating back to the '80's - should be lots more lucrative contracts if that's commonplace:

"Diving-equipment technology firm Divex has secured a “multi-million pound” contract to supply a saturation diving system to Keppel Singmarine.

The north east firm has been commissioned to provide engineering design, supply and installation of a 300 metre depth 18 man twin bell/twin hyperbaric lifeboat saturation diving systems to the Singaporean shipyard.

The systems will feature two side mate diving bells mated to individual transfer-under-pressure chambers, with divers housed in five saturation chambers.

Once manufactured at various global Divex facilities, including Aberdeen and Glasgow, South Africa and Australia, they will be installed on a new purpose-built vessel in Singapore, destined for BP’s Shah Deniz II Project in the Caspian Sea.

“This is a very important win for us particularly given the standing of both Keppel Singmarine and the ultimate owner, BP,” said Derek Clarke, Divex’ joint managing director.

“It is the culmination of many months of work and a fitting reward for all the effort put in by Divex staff to provide the very best diving technology.

“Current diving support vessels in the Caspian are from the era going back to the 80s so when she is operational she will herald a significant leap forward in diving technology terms”."

Scotland votes NO...so for FSJ it's all systems go :o))

Why they'd ever vote Yes is beyond me. One Scottish caller said all her educated friends were voting No and her uneducated friends were voting Yes. That about sums it up.

illiswilgig,

Yep, I think Thursday`s referendum is having an effect. It may have a bigger one if the yes vote wins. I have been amazed at the paucity of the debate. There is no long term plan .

This DSRV contract is indeed good news for JFD, well deserved if a long time coming.

Since the price has been falling (is this an effect of the upcoming referendum?) I've taken the opportunity to top up again.

cheers

Perhaps to be RNS'd when the contract is formally signed....

"James Fisher Defence wins Indian Navy submarine rescue contract
Rahul Bedi, New Delhi and James Hardy, London - IHS Jane's Navy International
10 September 2014

James Fisher Defence has previously supplied DSRVs to the Singaporean and South Korean navies. Source: Lloyd's Register

The Indian Navy (IN) has shortlisted the UK's James Fisher Defence (JFD) to supply it with two 30-ton deep submergence rescue vehicles (DSRVs) for about INR4 billion (USD66.66 million).

IN officials told IHS Jane's on 9 September that a DSRV offered by JFD was recently selected over a Russian vessel after emerging as L1, or the lowest bidder, after user evaluation and trials. They said the Ministry of Defence would sign a contract over the next 6-8 months following price negotiations with JFD.

The IN operates only one diving support vessel - INS Nireekshak - that also doubles as a submarine rescue vessel and has been seeking two DSRVs for nearly 17 years. Its initial attempt to acquire them in 2005 was called off following corruption allegations and the requirement was re-tendered in 2010.

As an interim measure, in 1997 the IN signed a USD734,443 contract with the US Navy for its "global submarine rescue fly-away kit" service.

Acquiring DSRV capability gained impetus after INS Sinshurakshak , a Russian 'Kilo'-class submarine, exploded in the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai in August 2014, killing all 18 IN personnel on board.

JFD has previously sold DSRVs of a similar class to the Indian requirement to Singapore and South Korea. In December 2008 the Republic of Korea Navy's DSRV II - based on JFD's deep search-and-rescue (DSAR) 500-class submersible - achieved a depth of 507 m during sea acceptance tests, the deepest recorded dive in the navy's history."

Good news:

"James Fisher dives in at MeyGen
08/09/2014

James Fisher Marine Services has confirmed a deal to tackle marine installation for the 6MW first phase of Atlantis Resources' MeyGen tidal energy array in the far north of Scotland.

The contract covers four 1.5MW turbines, support structures and power export cables and follows the agreement of a £50m funding package for the scheme in the Pentland Firth. Construction is expected to commence later this year with first electricity delivered to the grid by 2016.

James Fisher group business development manager Jim Hey said: “As an integrator of complex marine projects with access to the specialist resources and capabilities of the wider James Fisher group, this latest award builds on its successful track record of completing detailed planning and engineering studies for other tidal developments and delivery of other significant projects the marine sector.”

The MeyGen array will eventually total 398MW and feature up to 269 tidal turbines."

Has everyone noted the major story yesterday about the closure and works needed at Heysham and Hartlepool nuclear power stations?

It just so happens that FSJ's Strainstall - and FSJ Nuclear - carry out a lot of work at these two sites:

This could be quite a large extra boost for FSJ this year if all goes well (OT : I also own ALK, which could well benefit from the need for emergency electricity/gas supplies).
