Recent discussions among investors regarding ITV Plc have centered on the broadcaster's impressive financial performance and strategic potential, particularly highlighting the success of its Zoo 55 digital initiative, which generated approximately £60 million in high-margin revenue in 2024—an increase of 30% year-on-year. The company anticipates this revenue could double by 2027 as it expands its channel offerings and games. Investor sentiment appears buoyed by these results, as evidenced by a notable 9.7% rise in share price recently, followed by a closing uptick of 3.2% on subsequent days.
Moreover, conversations have also circulated around potential mergers and acquisitions, with speculation on ITV's future amid ongoing discussions of cost-cutting measures and optimization of its production arm. Notably, there is chatter about a £3 billion merger that is currently facing delays due to regulatory issues concerning The Telegraph's ownership. One investor remarked, "I have added for the income as better now than Lloyd's," reflecting a positive view on ITV's dividend yield and growth potential in comparison to other investments. Overall, the sentiment in the forum seems to indicate optimism about ITV's future trajectory, fueled by strong recent performance and promising strategic initiatives.

ITV Plc recently reported its full-year results for 2024, demonstrating a significant profit increase despite a reduction in revenue. The company's adjusted EBITA rose by 11%, driven primarily by strong performance in ITV Studios and enhanced profitability in the Media and Entertainment (M&E) segment. Notably, ITVX, the company's digital platform, saw a 15% increase in digital advertising revenue and a 12% boost in digital viewing compared to the previous year, paving the way for the platform to recoup its cumulative investments earlier than expected. Additional cost-saving measures yielded £60 million in efficiencies for the year, surpassing initial goals, and ITV has projected further savings in 2025.
Alongside its financial achievements, ITV has also been actively engaged in share buybacks. During the week of March 2-6, 2025, the company completed multiple transactions, purchasing nearly 8.5 million shares at volume-weighted average prices around 70-73 pence, in alignment with its announced buyback program. Following these transactions, ITV has 120,479,277 shares in treasury, indicating a commitment to returning value to shareholders while managing its capital structure effectively.

A small buy back today but on a shortened day quite acceptable. Time to relax and look forward to a more promising 2025. IAG (British Airways) was my big gainer so patience can be rewarded. |
Laugh of the week! |
Matthew - interesting and not unexpected from a fund. |
And thank you Cyberian. |
I had lunch on Friday in the city with a few old colleagues and clients of mine. One of them has a not insignificant midcap hedge fund. I told him I was long ITV and he laughed and said they’d been shorting it last week. I asked why and he said purely that they hate the UK (economy). Despite the success of ITVx and the studios business , ITV is still traded (by some) as a linear TV play. That makes it an interest rate sensitive (advertising), and if you hate the UK economy , you would hate ITV. I don’t agree clearly (with the investment case), but it’s hard to be positive on UK plc right now… |
Have a good Christmas one and all. |
I don't think Idiot is shorting at all, he's a fantasist. |
Well, for better or for worse I've used todays fake low volume rise in the markets...and ITV (rising on buy back bots in the absence of sellers today) to re-short again having covered at slightly lower levels.(A 50% hedge against my investment here) |
matthewr1...some good, fair, and balanced posts from you which are much appreciated. Roll on January! |
Loginname, thanks for the link mate. Regarding the buy back shares that are currently held in treasury, ITV have said in the RNS that they intend to cancel the purchased shares. I agree that it would make good sense to hold some for future employee share plans. |
Added 25,653 shares this morning. |
Nige, some ideas here. |
"I spoke to an old colleague of mine ex Logica PLC whose son works for a City investment bank who believe ITV are being prepared for anything hostile." |
I wonder with AIM being closed today will any high rollers bung a few quid into ITV on bid chance? |
Itv attempted to acquire All3media back in 2023. The opposite might be considered unwelcome |
There are signs that all the talk is more than rumour. I spoke to an old colleague of mine ex Logica PLC whose son works for a City investment bank who believe ITV are being prepared for anything hostile. Such info generally is out weeks before a bid. |
Come on Santa... |
Although they wouldn't then be taking over a business with a big pile of cash if it's all been spent on buy backs |
I assume any takeover would probably end when the share buyback is more or less complete (if the price remains the same per share then with less shares they get the company cheaper)... |
Exactly that bountybar! We’re getting paid to wait! |
People expecting this to open at £1.50 don’t seem to understand it’s Xmas week. |
The bid is in for DLG, now I just need the same for ITV and SPI to complete the set! I'm expecting to have to wait a while however. |

A technical overall outlook of the pricing paths has been in the form of a downward-prevailing trend, as the operations in the Wood Group (John) Plc (LSE:WG.) are yet under a falling force, as the stock price is rebuilding a basis under the sell signal line of the moving averages. Given the current market conditions, […]

It has been practically demonstrated that bulls have come to maintain steady recouping moves around usual critical support lines, as the financial output records that Itv Plc (LSE:ITV) set a base on 70, attempting surges through variant overhead barriers. The formation of the bullish candlestick currently in progress suggests an increased...

London stocks fell in early trade on Friday as Trump’s decision to delay tariffs on some products from Mexico and Canada failed to boost sentiment, and as investors eyed the latest US non-farm payrolls report. At 0830 GMT, the FTSE 100 was down 0.4% at 8,651.67. Trump’s tariffs were still very much in focus. After […]
