I just went for a bowl of tanuki udon to celebrate, then I looked at the share price. Good thing they were only six quid, now I'm full of broth and back under water.

As Japan is the nation with the most visible commitment to the Hydrogen Economy I feel this agreement is being undervalued but given our history I understand the reticence to 'believe' just yet. I think the doubters are wrong but time will tell. The 2020 Tokyo Olympics will be hydrogen powered. Japan will definitely have a complete H2 refuelling network. The scale of opportunity is massive and gaining leverage in a very closed market also provides massive validation for the tech. This time is different!!!

The Japs will already have big plans for ITM kit that's why they did the deal. Good news is coming.

We should rejoice. This is one of the few pieces of encouraging news we have had in a long time . Sumitomo are not negotiating and agreeing this for no reason . It is a major positive

What team? GC et al have always been out for themselves. Putnam should have been ashamed to go on after they degraded the governance.

well if ever there was a case for announcing a follow up LIcense deal with a guarenteed and minimum payment clause this must be it. I would have no qualms iro granting a license to a company such as Sumitomo who would then be able to control production. they are also then in prime postion to buy ITM.....??? N is quite correct re needing the team to follow through and deliver.

I cannot think why the market is spectacularly underwhelmed. It is not like ITM have announced collaborations in the past which have failed to deliver. Luckily I just know that this time is different!

I see 'the company has a non-contracted pipeline of tender quotations in excess of £250m.' Also 'The Company's order pipeline stands at £33.8m of projects under contract and £6.5m of contracts in the final stages of negotiation, totaling £40.3m (subject to exchange rate variation).' I wonder how much they have tendered over the last two years and how much of that has turned into firm orders.

so a deal that shows enormous potential is already being written off before it gets off the ground. perhaps the board realised this potential some time ago and that is why they are investing in a larger factory. Its called forward planning anyway I am cheesed off with this negativity off to enjoy the sunshine

juju, Sumitomo MIGHT get customers and MIGHT help with finance. There's no guarantee though. You need to see the sales come through and a decent contracted pipeline. Often these agreement announcements are fluff. Look at NANO and their 'deals'. A long time ago I remember a company called Vphase (VPHA) which announced a 'deal' with British Gas. Pure pump it was. Shorters' gold! hTTps://www.power-technology.com/uncategorised/news58807-html/ Perhaps I'm just too cynical.

Its a great deal . Sumitomo will get the customers and help them with finance. What's not to like about it . I think as it sinks in over coming days the share price will move up to reflect what has been gained

Cerrito. Did you approach your Japanese counterpart direct or through their commercial attache? Are they usually straightforward in their dealings? Maybe Sumitomo can impart some commercial nouse onto ITM to get them to market

Agreements need to translate into sales. I see no mention of any upfront payment from Sumitomo or commitment to miniumum sales levels, in return for those exclusive rights in Japan. A no lose agreement for Sumitomo IMO, not so sure about ITM.

RS But there must be a considerable tail wind behind this business that will surely start impacting the chart The only tail wind is the silent smelly chart farts this board and the day traders emits .. especially when this share does not do charts as much as slides I'd say juditious buying , which we may have also seen a few weeks ago ; This will continue for a good few days I reckon ; Remember when you were on about hoovering?

Thanks for that, gspanner. Mr Suzuki is General Manager of the Energy Division and is named in the website. I wanted to be sure that he was a man of some importance and clout who people take seriously within an organisation with 77k employees; I am satisfied on that score. If I have time I will see what Sumitomo have done in this field. This is good news but Cooley was right to refer to the mid long term time frame.

Funny the way different punters look at things. Our problem has been an inability to sell , not the quality of the tech. Now we have someone on board to sell and even help customers to finance their purchase big time and peeps ditch their shares . This is surely the time to buy , not sell

An RNS lacking any specifics so the fear is it will require capital to facilitate more manufacturing commitment. Sold out on the rise, I have confidence in his business but this imo is not transformational, just another good news day down the line.
