A good option to start drip-feeding into. Especially, in my view, whilst the S&P 500 continues to look comparatively expensive and with the low value of GBP also working against UK investors in US / global index trackers.

There are six ETFs on the main market which track the FTSE mid 250:

(ticker; provider)
MIDD by iShares
XMCX by db X-trackers
HMCX by HSCB
L250 by Lyxor
S250 by Source
VMID by Vanguard

Morningstar ( hxxp://www.morningstar.co.uk/uk/ ) finds all of them if you click on ETF Find ETF > ETF Screener

Then set Fund Universe to "ETF - London Stock Exchange" and set Morningstar Category to "UK Mid-Cap Equity" and press Search.

Small companies' index under the ticker CUKS



Like MIDD, it's an ETF run by iShares which is part of BlackRock. It has similar behaviour to MIDD. If you want higher growth than the FTSE100 and can tolerate more volatility, MIDD and CUKS are the index-tracker ETFs for you.

MIDD and CUKS are eligible for a shares ISA.
