Vintage guitars as represented by the Vintage Guitar 42 index performed most other asset classes from 1991 up until 2008 anyway. (INCLUDING GOLD) with an average annual return of 31%

Anchorage Capital has set up a hedge fund to invest £55m in vintage guitars.

This got me thinking that I might like a slice of the action along the lines of my own portfolio a bit like holding physical gold really except you can strum it

There are a few problems firstly, the 42 vintage index comprises only of Martin, Les Paul and Fender guitars leaving me totally exposed to the American market , secondly a nice example might set you back £100k thirdly it might be a bubble and I would be getting in right at the top.

So I am thinking of starting in a smaller way with an african investment and storing it away until it appreciates to £100k

Cornell Dupree

Just a note to say Cornell Dupree has died. An amazing guitarist who will be sadly missed. I can't even guess how often he appears on tracks in my record collection, must be hundreds- BB King, Aretha, King Curtis, anything and everything on atlantic produced by the great Jerry Wexler. They really don't make them like that anymore.

The particular thing that impressed me was the way he played lead & rhythm at the same time, seamlessly meshed together, and not a wasted note. Magic!

hmmm, not impressed with Lady Gaga

all that 'power' and she can't 'work' with the best in the business?

don't doubt she has 'something to say'. but compare and contrast what she puts out with this beauty?

the 'mu' chord bamboo... not in this song particularly, but it's this:

rather than play C E G for a C chord, add in the 2nd in too

so, C E G becomes C D E G, - bit like John Lennon's imagine etc, nice 'discord' if that makes sense.. 'out here' - same as Hendrix's added 9th (octave higher, which is easier on a guitar for sure..)

easy on a piano though...

a similar song, similar style. the live version on jholland had a load of hiss at the end. dodgy contacts? sounds like synth sounds and effects from the late 1980's. wind up that reverb!
