Thanks andmand aka maz

Interesting the churn rate as percentage is nearly 50% lower than last year. It either means that affiliates are working harder or af are choosing better quality merchants, whatever, it is a good sign

My invoice on affiliate future has been updated for the end of February. The following is the increase in my invoice number month by month which I believe to be a measure of the number of active affiliates (i.e. those who earn some commission in the month but not necessarily the minimum £20 required for a payout). Date Increase in Invoice No.   28/02/2007 84182 31/01/2007 81814 31/12/2006 80062 30/11/2006 76698 31/10/2006 68459 30/09/2006 65667 31/08/2006 61558 31/07/2006 59445 30/06/2006 57358 31/05/2006 55665 30/04/2006 54586 31/03/2006 45138 28/02/2006 45881 31/01/2006 45891 31/12/2005 35514 30/11/2005 33479 31/10/2005 31663 30/09/2005 18944 31/08/2005 39575 31/07/2005 27075 30/06/2005 18944 31/05/2005 35057 30/04/2005 14864 31/03/2005 23056 28/02/2005 23269

LS - looked at STBR after the RNS, but couldn't buy in size. Don't like the sector but it looks to have legs at that market cap.

Seems to me that IBG are undergoing a fair bit of change at the moment, with the media division development work, office recruitment in Spain, and new offices in UK. Let's hope Maz keeps costs under control. :0)

I think that IBG has been a super investment for LB already Masurenguy. I think that I've 'hung' with LB on this thread for about 3 years now. :O)

BTW For all you 'old' IBGers, if you want to join the party with Ken and my good self then have a look at STBR. Non-software/tech though but very cheap on a single multiple as we speak. :O)

Hey LB, interesting to see you here. We both sold out of ISD this week - hope that IBG proves to be a better investment. IBG results were good but their share price continues to lag their performance.

Anyone that questions why any merchant would want to run an affiliate campaign, doesn't, IMO, understand affiliate marketing, as it's essentially revenue (however big or small) for free.

If you said that 'Big Merchant' could generate sales of £1m a month through 10,000 affiliate links, merely for the cost of 10% commission say (7% to affiliate + 3% to network), why wouldn't they? (Remember that large retailers' margins are normally pretty high.)

IMO it's a real no-brainer, especially when your competitors are trying to steal market share from you by doing exactly the same thing!

hirsch - if you run an in-house campaign for superaffiliates to save on commission alongside a network for smaller affiliates, why would it lose sales?
aleman

Banners don't work - the public want and are getting used to more detailed offers in online advertising. What the brands are getting is tailor-made advertising by affiliates without having to pay a marketing agency an arm and a leg for a fancy campaign. The effective affiliates know their visitors and know how to get sales for the brands.

For example:
If there are say 10 big websites for mobile phone deal comparison, would you want to be the marketing manager for Vodaphone who decided not to run an affiliate program and therefore not to get listed on those sites.

This is driven by customers. They want to (for instance) compare mobile phone deals. You couldn't do that in real time before.

If you're Vodaphone it would be arrogant and commercial suicide to assume that because you've got a well-known brand, that online buyers would do a comparison of 6 other brands and then make a special journey to your site to check your offerings.

For the likes of Tescos or Vodaphone and other big house hold merchants on TD or Valueclick....free advertising yes by affiliates but do they need it. Perhaps banner adverts on websites that Jo Public frequently goes to like MSN, Yahoo, Time newspaper...but these companies can easily promote e-shopping alongside their home shopping catalogues or putting up banners in-store. I'm thinking why give a percentage cut to an affiliate when they are already strong brands. Maybe its just a competition thing to crowd out more nimble internet competitors and an affiliate bribe is the price they have to pay.

I do see some big brands more like conglomerates, trying to sell in many generic retail areas..eg Tescos food, insurance etc . I see affiliate potential if big merchants offered niche websites which affiliates could promote. But maybe I'm wrong....but you don't see Ford sticking a Ford badge on a Volvo or Jaguar as they know the value of a brand.

I dont think anyone sensible would take the a program in house. Why loose potential sales

Isn't there the risk that large merchants take the business in-house in the long run once there are more experienced affiliate managers about? I don't see what the problem is anyway. AF has ourperformed all the competition and you're suggesting they should be doing what the others are doing. Doesn't seem very logical to me. I think you're confusing the company performance with the share price performance. Shares regularly don't do what their supposed to and a good job it is. It would be a lot harder to make money investing otherwise.
