IUG letting us know that SonoLystlive is officially launched. I guess no RNS then.

Looks like Prof. Papageorghiou also presented on using AI to estimate gestational age using ultrasound images. At least one attendee was very impressed. If I recall correctly, 40F brought to our attention that IUG had filed a patent application for a similar sounding invention ( Hopefully this can be incorporated sooner rather than later.

It's a shame the company doesn't have the ability to make the videos of these events (or at least clips) available to shareholders/investors.

Yes, lots of things happening with AI and ultrasound at GE. I note on Friday that they have picked up a US$44 million grant from BARDA to develop AI Ultrasound for use in mass casualty trauma situations. While no immediately obvious read across for us it would not be a massive surprise to see as end up with a work package or two.

We may also get an RNS relating to the formal launch of SonolystLive in the first half of the week. Maybe also details of whether it will be included as standard on the Expert series or not. The formal product launch is at the ISUOG Congress being held in Korea Monday to Wednesday of this comming week.

40F, all, GEHC just updated their website [since the last time I looked just after the acquisition], to include all the Caption Health AI based ideas.

Imo, they'll be ready to add IUG to the stable soon!

GEHC Q3 update in the next two weeks.

Added a few more.
Got room for another 50k if it goes down a bit more...

Must admit, I didn't expect it get back to 10.2 again.

This is from a couple of days ago on the IUG twitter feed.

"The Global Grand Challenges Meeting starts next week (8-11 October) in Dakar, Senegal, where our COO @Nicholas Sleep will be speaking on a panel about AI and Medical Devices.

The meeting, supported by the @Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and its Grand Challenges Partners, convenes a dynamic community of researchers and practitioners and provides a platform to learn about cutting-edge scientific advances, build new local regional and global collaborations and explore how to build a more effective, inclusive and equitable ecosystem for global health R&D"

Confirms links to Gates Foundation

40F, thanks that all reads really well. I look forward to your next instalment.

It sometimes takes me a bit of time to comprehend your posts, then the penny drops!

The dates co-incide nicely with the apex based turn dates on my chart in post 233.

Bamboo, all most there on the battlefield medical research, will update soon.

In the meantime

This is an abstract form a Poster that will be presented at the ISUOG World Congress in Seoul, South Korea from the 16-19 October. You will note it concludes that SonoLyst achieves expert level performance when categorising images for adherence to ISUOG mid-trimester screening guidelines.

"Conclusions: SonoLyst is indistinguishable from an expert when categorising views of routine mid-trimester scans against ISUOG guidelines. Such software can support sonographers during routine scans to ensure completeness and quality of scanning by ‘‘real-time peer review’’ of captured images."

It is also worth noting that full launch of SonolystLive will take place at the same conference and we should find out if it is to be included as standard on the Voluson Expert Series machines. This would result in IUG receiving a royalty on every machine sold rather than when the software is selected as an optional extra.

This linkedin post
Suggests to me it is. -" #AI a still secret AI feature reducing scanning time by 40% 🤫"

Hi 40F, I am running a large holding, sometimes up to 500,000

I tend to average in and out, as price dictates.

I was taking some cash from here to average down my holding in ONT, as the opportunity there seemed too good to miss.

If this drops a bit more, I will buy them back.

Maddox, thanks for the Gates vid.
Really interesting about AI.
Gates suggesting it's becoming bigger than the Personal Computer boom that started in the 1980's

@ Maddox, well spotted. The Gates Foundation has been supporting Ultrasound with grants for years this includes lowering the cost of hardware and increasing the automation in the software.

I am not sure anything in his show and tell actually gives us a signal either way ... he does say.

"Another amazing thing is that because the software here is doing the work, to look at the placenta, to look at the cord, to look at the amniotic sac, understanding because we have trained in AI on lots of data about good outcome pregnancies and tough outcome pregnancies the actual work does not require as much training. It guides you to scan properly and then gives you the information as to what they should do"

My suspicion still, is that as a minimum we will be providing some pared down form of Sonolyst for protocol based scans and we will also be providing our new gestational age product that has recently been patented.

I have posted something similar before but it is sets it out more clearly on a single webpage the existing links between IUG and the Gates Foundation in the area of AI driven neonatal imaging in the developing world. It is worth noting the following.

- Prof Papageorghiou was the co founder of Intelligent Ultrasound
- Over a signficant number of years he has received funding from the Gates Foundation
- His clinical special interests include all aspects of fetal medicine and ultrasound, fetal growth and pre-eclampsia, non-invasive and invasive prenatal diagnosis, and fetal therapy.

I think and this is probably the basis of our GA product - from the Prof Papageorghiou and team.

and a video of it in action

Here is a link to an academic paper about Machine Learning for Accurate Estimation of Fatal age based on Ultrasound Images

I would draw your attention to the bottom of the article firstly the acknowledgments

"This Biometry Automation in OBstetric And Beyond (BAOBAB) study was supported by generous grants from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to the University of Oxford (INV-000368)"

I would then draw your attention to the ethics declaration

"Competing interests

I have quite a lot on this topic now ... but for the moment to avoid overloading the BB I will just post one more that shows battlefield medicine has always been in their thoughts.

"Ultrasound- guided regional anaesthesia also has the potential to be employed more widely, for example, by nurse anaesthetists, emergency medicine physicians, armed forces/battlefield medical practitioners and those treating pain in the chronic pain clinic or palliative care."

Authors J. Bowness and D. Burckett-St Laurent are now both connected IUG.
