LEXUS HAS GIVEN IT'S BLESSING TO HFC POWERED CARS AND TRANSPORT---THE FUTURE IS GOING TO BE HYDROGEN BECAUSE THE MARKET DEMANDS IT.

Next Generation 2019 Lexus to be Hydrogen Fuel Cell Driven

author Added by FuelCellsWorks, December 06, 2016

Lexus recently revealed that its 2019 model will offer a hydrogen fuel cell powered powertrain.

Lexus Europe boss Alain Uyttenhoven said: “We know how to make fuel cells and the only challenge is how to package a fuel cell in a car that also needs a certain level of performance.” He did not confirm plans for the LS, however. “Premium buyers have certain expectations. For refinement, fuel cell is ideal, but we must also do some work to demonstrate the right levels of performance.”

When Lexus unveiled the LF-FC at the 44th Tokyo Motor Show in October, the brand offered a sneak peek into the future. The svelte four-door flagship concept sedan is large, and its dynamic forms are exact and exciting. But while the LF-FC’s exterior styling is worthy of note, it is what lurks beneath that is particularly groundbreaking.

The “FC” in the model’s name stands for “fuel cell,” which references the car’s revolutionary new fuel-cell drive system. Using a fuel-cell stack that mixes two elements that are abundant in nature – hydrogen and oxygen – the LF-FC produces electricity from a small battery, removing the need for a gas-guzzling gasoline engine and the necessity for heavier batteries. The benefits add up. Unlike conventional electric vehicles, refuelling a fuel

cell-powered unit only takes a few minutes. It’s also amazingly clean – water vapor is the only emission. Power is transferred to the ground via in-wheel-motors at each front wheel (along with its rear wheel drivetrain), making the model an all-wheel-drive vehicle.

The styling of the original concept vehicle is bold and dynamic. From every angle the sedan appears elegant and sporty (there are cues taken from Grand Touring models here). Its overall demeanor is characterized by a swooping roofline and a low, wide, aggressive stance. The front end features an evolved version of Lexus’s trademark spindle grille (it features a new mesh design), while L-shaped daytime running lights jut out from the front fenders. The rear is highlighted by striking taillights, which seem to be floating in midair.

I'm sure this won't go down well but...

Whilst I share your enthusiasm and belief that IEH are doing the right thing at almost the right time it goes without saying that something needs to change for IEH in the next 6-9 months then they will need to get some more money - this could well cause us, normal investors, problems in terms of dilution or worse.

For the moment they've been doing what they've been doing and all that does is burn the cash. This has slowed significantly and it will be interesting to see if it has slowed even more now that the GTL project has ceased - as far as we know - although there must be some sort of transaction to occur, as there are 7 of the units out there.. They won't just be switched off, or will they? Who knows! I guess GTL thought they could get it for X and IEH wanted Y and the two amounts were wildly different. Let's just hope a competitor doesn't step in and snaffle the other tower replacements...

There is the Asian and African TowerXChange meetings - and a London based one as well I think.. They need to do deals from these!

If they can get close to cash positive or actually cash positive then at least they can be masters of their own destiny but based on past performance they haven't achieved this so far. Of course it is still early doors on the management change - they have been pressing for deals in China and Japan - but again nothing new has really come out of these.

I know SMILE seems to be on the upward curve, which is excellent - but I'm not entirely sure of the benefit to IEH - whilst their tech and IP will of course be used I'm thinking that Suzuki have done a deal where if they produce the HFCs they gain financially - there might be a limited amount of income if at all to IEH.. I hope this isn't the case - maybe someone can dig up the details of the arrangement - but I strongly suspect that Suzuki wanted to be masters of their own destiny and so created an arrangement which mostly benefited themselves. Saying that the Suzuki arrangement has been a really positive one for IEH.

I thought the share price was in a slowing phase but the GTL, DP&G news, has halted that slow down and we are in a further dip again. A continuance of that project whilst possibly not financially beneficial would at least have allowed IEH to show to other telcos that want to exchange their remote towers that their tech is in and working. That was a fairly unquantifiable benefit in terms of turnover.

Saying all of this I am a holder and similarly may well top up.

Nice find ibug ... I just found this. ... with the Tokyo Olympics supposedly pitched as the Hydrogen Olympics ... clean, environmentally friendly etc .... I think SMILE FC Corporation are really well placed to take advantage of opportunities. IEH don't have to play catch up ... IEH have been waiting, like everyone else in this sector for sentiment to change ... I think the change in sentiment is gathering momentum and people will want to get in as low as possible which will auger well ... I'll be topping up as soon as I'm paid ... at these levels??? I don't think the company will go bust for loads of reasons I've outlined before .... and I found this which is a really well put together argument for HFCs ....

THIS SIGNALS A MAJOR NEED TO STORE SURPLUS ENERGY AS HYDROGEN

The rapid rise of clean power in Europe has caused some problems

As a whole, Europe has committed more than $1.2 trillion into the renewable energy space, with Germany leading investments in wind power and other forms of clean energy.

The rapid rise of renewable energy throughout Europe may have created some market distortions, which may leave some countries vulnerable to blackouts. In the wake of the 2011 Fukushima disaster, many countries throughout the world shut down their nuclear power plants. This was the case in Germany, where the government announced it would completely abandon nuclear energy by 2022.

Telia, Reliable Power Supply for Telecom
author Added by FuelCellsWorks, December 05, 2016

PowerCell’s efforts in the telecom industry address a growing problem for operators in respect of electricity supply for telecom base stations.

The mobile phone industry’s trade association GSMA has reported that about one million telemasts are outside of reliable electrical grids and another 200,000 are expected to be added by 2020. The traditional alternative is a diesel power unit, but global players are under strong pressure to find environment-friendly renewable alternatives.

The work on the electricity supply of telecom base stations has also led to a cooperation agreement with TeliaSonera to assess PowerPac’s suitability as auxiliary power for one of this telecom company’s deployed base stations. The test is taking place in the Gothenburg area through controlled simulated power failures and the aim is to evaluate the potential for all of Telia Sonera’s markets.

Very encouraging, thanks for sharing Dean.

"Suzuki hopes to turn its fuel cell two-wheeler into one of its major products."

and the fact that the Japanese Transport Ministry are looking to create a set of standards - this should allow Japan to lead that sector and hopefully for other countries to follow.

from asia.nikkei.com/Business/Companies/Suzuki-to-test-hydrogen-motorcycle-on-public-roads

What SMILE FC Corporation are going to do with their FC production line ... Daihatsu is a division of Toyota so are unlikely to be customers. Mazda have a Rotary IC engine. Just wondering who else is using IEH's tech? The good news is the amble to HFC powered vehicles is likely to become a stampede and anyone able to mass produce HFCs to the right spec should score. Also, I imagine price will be important and it seems IEH have produced HFCs that are smaller and cheaper ... idea for the little mini vans that teem in the streets of the developing world. Maybe the future is not replacing petrol guzzlers with hydrogen guzzlers.

"Suzuki to test hydrogen motorcycle on public roads
TOKYO -- Japanese automaker Suzuki Motor plans to commercialize a hydrogen-powered fuel cell motorcycle, with plans to start testing it on public roads next year.

Japan's transport ministry is expected to write safety and environmental standards for fuel cell bikes as early as January; they would be the world's first such regulations. Once approved, Suzuki will begin test-driving the cycle on public roads.

Fuel cells are considered a trump card for automakers trying to make vehicles that don't belch exhaust. The Mirai fuel cell vehicle, developed by Japan's Toyota Motor, is the latest example of the zero-emission technology. Suzuki hopes to turn its fuel cell two-wheeler into one of its major products.

It already has a joint venture with Intelligent Energy Holdings, a U.K. venture company, that will produce a Burgman fuel cell scooter. The high-pressure hydrogen tank is small enough for a motorcycle. The first Burgman scooter will be based on Suzuki's existing 120cc model.

Suzuki also intends to develop compact four-wheel vehicles that run on hydrogen.

While Toyota's Mirai has already hit roads around the world, safety and other standards have yet to catch up. The Japanese transport ministry will set terms for safety concerns specific to fuel cell motorcycles, such as requiring makers to design the bikes so that their hydrogen tanks are protected, even in accidents. Suzuki plans to commercialize its motorcycle once it receives ministry approval."

Hubris was all that was wrong with the management; Walking on water, got them into GTL on the wrong footing. Wasted a fabulous opportunity after the listing by not cutting to get into sharp focus ; Good if they can survive.

MAYBE IEH WILL BE GETTING SOME RATHER LARGE GOVERNMENT FUNDED CONTRACTS.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “I want London to become a world leader in hydrogen and electric bus technology. I’m implementing hard-hitting measures to clean-up London’s toxic air and it’s great that more cities are getting on board to phase out the procurement of pure diesel buses which sends a clear signal that only the cleanest technologies are wanted in our cities.

“Transforming London’s bus fleet by accelerating the introduction of zero-emission buses is important and I plan to work with bus manufacturers, other cities, the European Commission and the C40 Climate Change Leadership Group of Cities to move this agenda forward.”

As part of his commitment to cleaning the capital’s air, the Mayor wants all London buses to meet the Ultra-Low Emission Zone standard during 2020.

So can we infer that a) some benefit from reducing loss making activities b) there might be some restructuring costs c) net effect pretty small?

I WROTE TO IEH and asked about whether cash burn would be reduced due to events at Essential Energy -India. Here is a somewhat cryptic reply.

Thank you for your enquiry. In response, I would point to three relevant sentences in the RNS, namely:

“In the year ended 30 September 2016 the Essential Energy segment recorded Revenue of £85.1m, an adjusted EBITDA(1) loss of -£2.5m and a loss after tax of -£5.5m.”

“Options will now be considered around the restructuring of the Essential Energy segment and the operations in India.”

“As noted at the annual results presentation, the outlook for the core business is not considered to be materially dependent on the completion of the GTL transaction.”

Kind regards

HYDROGEN POWERED TRANSPORT is becoming more popular everyday as more and more infrastructure projects are revealed. Major World Governments are determined to make hydrogen its main source of energy that will greatly improve health and the lifespans of people living and working in cities; which accounts for about half the world's population.
