Critically, IE also believes that the requisite level of demand exists for its products, although it has taken longer for IE to deploy standardised product than first thought. Now that a series of standardised products are available, sales are expected to scale more rapidly.

The use of commercial Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or drones is growing rapidly. Seven million drones are expected to be sold in the United States alone in 2020 according to the Federal Aviation Administraion.

Flight time has not kept pace with technological advances due to the limitations of traditional battery technology. For commercial use, drones need to offer better flight times and range. There are some new web pages on the iEH website....they are sales pages and product lists for each major sales office in China, Japan and America.

The United States is a key market for Intelligent Energy fuel cell products and the company has had a continuous presence since 2002. Tax revenue is not a problem. Gas is taxed @ 37p/ kilo, so H2 gas is an attractive tax revenue option and a clean solution.

After the Government lost in court and they were told that calling an election doesn't allow them to kick the "air quality can" down the road or "into the long grass", next week, the government will produce their draft bill on tackling air quality. It will likely contain proposals to deter the use of diesel cars and increase the adoption of zero emission vehicles. To what extent hydrogen vehicles benefit from this or are seen to be part of the future remains to be seen though I'm now going to argue a point which I think will prove electric vehicles have little future in the UK.

1. Electric vehicles in transit that need recharging will need space and power points. Especially around London, that would mean huge swathes of land disappearing under tarmac to accommodate cars when charging. NIMBIES will throttle planning applications and Greens will oppose green belt being covered in tarmac. There is also the issue that space may not necessarily be available at existing service stations to install these charging areas and the national grid, already braced for chaos with the future of some nuclear power stations in doubt (Toshiba, Brexit, French participation etc. and access to nuclear fuel administered by Euratom (which the UK appears to be leaving)

2. Hydrogen pumps can be installed in existing service stations (perhaps where there used to be a diesel pump) allowing HFC powered vehicles to be filled in minutes, the same amount of time it takes to fill an internal combustion engine driven vehicle. I cannot see the UK going heavily into EVs for these reasons on top of the chaos involved installing charging points in inner cities (where air is worst) for people to leave their cars charging overnight on the street or in communal parking of apartment blocks. How many roads in London will need to be dug up? Is there enough capacity in the grid to supply EVs without causing black outs? We've had decades of warnings about the lights going off because successive governments haven't bitten the bullet and addressed the issue of where the UK gets its electricity and that was without the prospect of widespread adoption of EVs .... if the nation's grid and electricity generating infrastructure needs a huge upgrade, EVs can seem an expensive option.

I just hope IEH have a HFC powered bus option to compete with Ballard who seem to lead this sector at the moment. brexit may, in this case, help IEH if leaving the EU means Ballard's HFCs are subject to tariffs. If IEH can make equal or better HFCs cheaper, I can imagine them being busy for quite a while supply bus manufacturers as, I suspect ... shock horror ... the UK may tackle air quality by introducing HFC powered buses and trains rather than encouraging the mass use of zero emission vehicles. The nation needs to ensure millions can get to work every day ... maybe clean public transport is the most cost effective option ..... HFC cars in the S are being leased for about $499 a month including free fuel ...... the REAL fun starts when the government starts trying to put duty on hydrogen and some bright spark develops a system for making hydrogen safely and cheaply at home ... we're surrounded by hydrogen .....

The government is addicted to fuel duty ..... and it's facing a perfect storm of dreadful air quality, an "energy crunch", falling tax revenues because we're all so poor ..... I'm glad I'm not in this government ...... I bet May is wishing she'd never called an election ....

UK’s zero emission bus deployment plans gain momentum

London, UK--Transport for London (TfL) has recently launched a tender for the bulk procurement of fuel cell buses. Working in partnership with other UK cities (Aberdeen, Birmingham, Dundee), TfL is inviting potential suppliers of fuel cell buses to join a framework for the supply of single and double decker vehicles to cities across the UK and potentially further afield. Further context and details of this opportunity are available from the contract notice published via the Official Journal of the EU (OJEU).1

Fuel cell buses can offer an attractive zero emission solution for public transport in cities. They do this without imposing any significant new operational constraints on bus operators, as they can meet all daily bus duty cycles and can refuel in a short refuelling window. As such, once their costs reduce through economies of scale, they will be a valuable tool in the fight against local pollution and the removal of carbon dioxide emissions from road transport. Furthermore, fuel cell buses have the potential to kick start the use of hydrogen for mobility, with other applications in passenger cars, vans, trucks and even trains expected to follow. The bulk procurement of buses will significantly increase yearly order volumes in Europe and will play a key role in reducing costs and bringing this technology closer to a commercial reality.

This is fascinating .... read it .... Intelligent Energy seems to be BY FAR the UK leader in energy technology intellectual property



next ....... this is interesting .... IEH has long co-operated with Suzuki co-owning with them a joint venture in Japan ...... some time agon, Suzuki announced a co-operation with Toyota who are now experimenting with a new fuel cell system .... which, interestingly, runs on natural gas ... it seems ... in the sense it takes natural gas and creates hydrogen from it which is fed into a fuel cell ... or that's the impression I got .... IBUG ...... know anything about IEH's patents? .... I've had a bit of a poke around but nothing yet .....



World-wide adoption of hydrogen fuel cells continues apace ... Henri Winand announced a few years ago that the manufacturing cost of HFCs had dropped by 70% ..... I can see IEH slowly rising by about 1% a week on average ... a few spikes, some selling to be expected and falls butI think people will increasingly see current SPs as a "ground floor" opportunity in one of the few areas where there s going to be growth .... the growing patent portfolio should mean the company is more valuable now than it was when it had fewer patents .... more patents = stagnant SP? Doesn't make sense

UK GAS NETWORK

The UK gas network looks set to become 100% Hydrogen.

The opening of the office also comes in the week following the Government’s pledge to commit £25m of funding for an innovative programme considering using hydrogen gas for heating in homes across the UK.

Mark Horsely, CEO of Northern Gas Networks, said: “We are delighted with the Government’s announcement of a £25m programme, which will provide significant amounts of the critical evidence required to allow a policy decision to convert the gas network to 100% Hydrogen.

The wider hydrogen energy industry is moving very fast imo...a few places in the Northern UK are now going to get a local H2 pipeline...not long from now people will be able to power their homes from an H2 furnace and heat it at the same time, far cheaper than the National Grid.

Ceres (CWR)already have such a product (FC-CHP)working with natural gas, on trial in a small number of director's and senior staff homes, and will I believe be launching commercially by the end of 2017. Their patented Steel Cell FC is uniquely developed for mass production by an as yet un-named global partner, punched from steel sheet and screen printed with ceramic ink - therefore hardy and inexpensive to produce.

It should end the day unchanged at this rate .... it'll be interesting to see what the next news is. When will the R&D from the cartridges produce a product for sale? What will that product be? For drones? For consumer electronics? For both?

I think the income from selling hydrogen in cartridges could be quite significant .... am I right in remembering seeing somewhere the UPP is being updated? What happened to the first versions? They were allegedly due to go to Africa where mobile networks wanted to increase the amount of time people could use their phones by ensuring they could be charged in places with no grid. Apparently, people running kiosks bought them and charged people to charge their mobiles from them ..... who knows ....

I reckon that gas boilers could be directly replaced with a replacement equivalent HFC powered electric furnace using H2 grid supplied gas that could also power an average house imo.

ibug, I agree with the use of HFC embedded in tablets. For the demographic that can afford high end ipads and Galaxy tablets etc. I just bought a "Lamina" Windows 10 tablet ... not bad but battery life could be better ... it's no worse than other tablets the uses for HFCs are everywhere to be seen ..... surveillance cameras in remote places that need to be always on and transmitting data from off grid .... wildlife photography ... the kind of thing you can leave in a mountain to capture very hard to film stuff like Snow Leopards .... this isn#t mass market stuff but it will come ... once the concept of hydrogen refills, remember when Calor Gas or Camping Gaz appeared in the 70s? ... it will be the same .... all manner of appliance will come with an HFC option ..... and still, how will military orders be revealed? ...... GSM technology was used by the military for years before it became available to the public .... here#s some reading ...... and

According to a Global Market Insights report issued in 2016, the worldwide fuel-cell market – including devices utilizing hydrogen – will have a value of $25 billion by 2024, with nearly one quarter of that from North America. Positions that would be generated by continued expansion of hydrogen commercialization include those related to: fueling stations operation; station planning and development; station construction; along with engineering and design ongoing supply and re-supply of station equipment; and all aspects of the hydrogen supply chain. In addition, as investments in hydrogen technology increase, they will generate new R&D and engineering jobs.

"Political winds may shift, but the march toward carbon reduction will continue creating an exciting environment for hydrogen technology and a potent opportunity for job creation," said Michael Beckman, Vice President of Hydrogen Fueling for Linde Americas. "Large-scale commercialization of the gas is quickly becoming a reality, spurred by environmental sustainability, rapid developments in fuel-cell design, relevant infrastructure technologies, and a steady increase in adoption of hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles. There are already more than 2,000 zero-emissions, fuel-cell vehicles on the road today, and they fuel at nearly 30 fueling stations across the U.S. We expect both of those figures to double in the next 18 to 24 months."
