Press coverage

And before the furore

Of course, what nobody really says is that Wilton Park is where the posh houses go. And INL have more land by the relief road where the Council is allocating housing. A massive area (only a bit owned by INL) where over 1,000 houses will go. That's where the real affordable ones will be - next to the bypass!

Nearly all the whiners (from their addresses) live in £m+ houses and just don't want any more people in the queues at Waitrose and M&S.
When they sell their houses they'll happily flog to a developer who'll cram a mega monstrosity palace on their plot though.
All a bit Stepford Wives is Beaconsfield. That's why so many of the letters seem to be pretty identical.

Many agents think this site is the best large site in the South East. Hardly surprising that INL want to put loads of posh houses on it, rather than building a council estate.

I have a reasonable amount invested here but on going through the objections I must say they don't read like a "load of Nimbys" to me.

This company is seen as a brown field developer and a builder of "affordable" housing, now that seems to be a big problem for them.

Perhaps the answer is that this isn't really a brown field site and they have an eye to the main chance and big bucks.
If people feel that this is the case they certainly have the right to object/complain.

Looks like in a couple of months there could be one resolved 'problem' application and one biggy approved then ? That would be a significant step.

Wilton Park - neighbouring Chiltern District Council has no objection to the planning application.

The share spike is probably down to Simon Thompson's coverage in IC.

Following the announcement made on 24 January 2019, the Company has been informed that, due to matters beyond the Company's control, the planning application for the Cheshunt Lakeside development is now due to be heard in March and not mid-February as previously announced. The Company continues to expect a resolution to grant approval for this major regeneration of 1,853 dwellings together with 18,000 sqm of commercial space. Further announcements will be made as appropriate. Separately, the Company is pleased to announce that its site in Meppershall, Bedfordshire, which is part of Inland's extensive strategic landbank, has obtained a resolution to grant consent for 60 homes on a 5.9 acre site. This land is held on a discount to market value option that the Company intends to exercise in due course.

Planning committees should have someone like the speaker of the HOC, to vet the issues for discussion and limit them to those of a serious nature that have a significant material effect on existing residents...

"I'm afraid the resident of Paradise Close knows full well that his question over the colour of the garage roofs is deliberately meant to slow up this process, so while I appreciate he may have a personal gripe against black asphalt, that is no cause for his objection to be heard by the planning committee, whose time he should appreciate is being paid for by other taxpayers who may have equally personal views about minor aspects of the development, which would waste time in an equally poor use of resources. Please sit down. Those present should take note that I will not allow any discussion of issues that I perceive to be purely personal and in some cases selfish to the detriment of the majority."

Just usual nimbys. Quite a few letters of support (though many look to be instigated by INL).
Only worrying one is Beaconsfield Town Council who are asking for more time to consider. Lord knows why - they've looked at it in great detail in the past and very little has changed that isn't well explained.

Has anyone looked through the docs on the Beaconsfield development? There are a lot of letters objecting to the development from residents and there seems to be an issue with the sports pitches re trees and who will own/control these. It might not all be plain sailing at the planning meetings!

I'd assume they already have, which is why there's been movement (albeit sneaky with INL's own social housing operator) on the affordable numbers.
Concise summary in the "Covering Letter" shown in the docs list posted 28 January.

Next planning committee dates are 6th and 27th March. Both way too early I think.
More likely a chance to be considered in the 17 April or 22 May meetings.
