I remember while at university going for a job interview with a merchant bank that had an office in Manchester as well as one in London. At teh Q & A stage I said, you wouldn't have to go to Manchester would you? One of teh blokes seemed at bit affronted and said it's not some sort of hellhole, you know.

Oddly enough I didn't get that job.

#9354 - we have both external and internal foreign aid to India in effect.

#9351 What do you mean?

#9352 Aye Pram, but there is a picture of you in the OED next to the words 'small-town', 'parochial' and 'old fart'.

I have seen the motorway signs to BOTH Nottingham AND Manchester, but passed them by, obviously. Happy to stay that way.

Morning all.

Teh domestic version of it is however expanding exponentially.

I note that the foreign aid budget for India has been frozen rather than reduced. To be fair, I would at least put in train a reduction.

I note teh EDL are planning something in Halifax - it seems all teh businesses in Hebden Bridge have had warnings (about teh "far right" group) about not leaving outside furniture or boards etc outside in case they get used for rioting. Manipulation of teh masses right in front of our eyes, like a scene out of 1984.

I think you're naive, you think I'm naive (although successive governments seem to agree with me). Let's leave it at that, eh.

...as a fast rising economy, our government is keen to keep them sweet...

Why? If they have such good prospects that is a case for commercial investment, nothing to do with teh government.

Giving money away in teh hope of getting something back is teh folly of fools.

If teh 2018 World cup bid taught us nothing else, it taught us that.

Time to move on, that might have worked when we were comparatively 'super rich' and these places were both hard up and had few credit lines available. Its all changed now, but we dont appear to have teh guts to do teh same.

#9342 Ah I see. So the centre was being redeveloped and you went to Hooters and some boozer near Trent Bridge and you have accordingly made your judgement. I can't think of any nice boozers near Trent Bridge, have better ways of gaining titillation than going to Hooters and would challenge any place to be nice when it is being redeveloped and is therefore a building site.

Having said that, central Manchester is alright too.

#9338 No, tbf I have only tried the (presumably 'nicer') bottled version.

I believe we are reducing our aid to India, although as a fast rising economy, our government is keen to keep them sweet so it might not be reduced by as much as you might otherwise expect.

Have you tried it Pinkey, or are you making one of your sweeping assumptions? It is certainly reasonable glugging wine, when you are a volume player, 750ml containers just are not practical.

Mikey, surely only blind loyalty could make you think Machester is dead nice but Nottingham a hole? Manchester's rough bits are every bit as bad as Nottingham's, but instead of a 5-1 girl-bloke ratio, the Lace Market and the Trent, Manchester has a lot of gurning idiots, Salford and some rain.

The Corby Casanova - hehe. Indeed another loverman in our midst but with Dunderesque modesty too.

The Trip to Jerusalem is indeed a nice boozer. Also not sure it is the oldest in the country but it at least has a claim to be so, as does the Sally (Salutation Inn) over the road.

Oxymoron of the morning? Banrock Station - fine wine.

Morning all.
