Once it begins to look like 'no buyer of the whole business' then the share price will fall quickly.

You are perfectly entitled to that belief. However, it appears the the majority of people believe something different since the share price is currently no where near 35p. Time will tell whether you or everyone else is correct....

Mallorca. Not having to design a gpu architecture from scratch with the legal minefield involving patent infringment etc.., is worth £100's millions alone. This is just one of the reasons why img will eventually sell at a premium compared to the current price.

If it’s true they are in profit as is expected they keep running the business for the next few years. The debt can be wiped out this year.

“Let me ask you ... why would anybody buy the whole Company , effectively taking it over as a going concern ?”

It would let the Chinese do what they want and gain semiconductor independence from America/Japan and Intel/Arm.

MIPS and the building alone are worth 100million. Why do you value the GPU side as zero? What about the patents which have a history of selling for 300+ million? Why are you valuing those as zero? We know companies are interested in MIPS for 60million+ from last time. So you are saying patents, building, GPU and eveything else is worth 40million!!!! How do you come to that conclusion?

Can't be bothered - but we all know that it's not going to be split out as a discontinued operation, both on definition and applicability

Results are out next Tuesday.
As well as showing an annual profit of only circa £4m and a net debt of circa £40m, they will have to show forward looking revenue from continuing operations, ie, without Apple.
I think the share price will plummet towards the end of this week and early next week.
The cash position isn't good either.

I've always been baffled at why anyone thinks you can influence a share price (either way) by talking up or slagging off a share on a bb. I find it amazing anyone would waste their precious time. Baffling

Ok Dan.
Let me ask you ... why would anybody buy the whole Company , effectively taking it over as a going concern ?
All of the staff would have to be taken on as per Tupe regulations, as well as any net debt - currently around £40m.
Now that they have put the business up for sale, what happens if there is no bidder ?
They will be lucky to get £100m.
That is an share price of 35p.

You are definitely deluded mallorca, and you're continued focus on profitability proves that.

I don't even have a position but it's clear to me that this will find a floor of 155-165 and i'd expect any bid to be at a 10-25% premium to that range.

I don't buy this talk of £3 and stuff but your 35p is equally silly IMO

Short positions have increased.
This could actually end up being shorted down to next to nothing.
Interesting.

Sells piling in.
Very unlikely that the company will be sold as a whole.
Interested parties will cherry pick, or simply wait for it to go under.
Next weeks results could be damaging with £2m profit and net debt of £40m (at half years).
A lot of speculation in the current share price

MailonlineIMG: But its decision to put itself up for sale yesterday still sent shares in the company soaring by 16.4 per cent, or 20.25p to 143.75p, as analysts predicted there would be a long queue of interested investors. It is now valued at £408million, well below its 2012 peak of nearly £2billion. Major firms in the frame possibly include American chip maker Intel, Taiwanese semiconductor company MediaTek, US telecoms firm Qualcomm and even Apple. Liberum analyst Janardan Menon said: 'This is a company that ticks a lot of exciting boxes and is working in what are becoming some very important areas. 'For many of the big companies that will be interested, it is also not that expensive.' The broker upgraded its recommendation from 'hold' to 'buy', advising investors it could be valued at as much as 233p a share – well above its close last night. Menon said: 'It is an underappreciated asset, but that should not detract from the fact it has key intellectual property.' There were also suggestions of interest from China, with some analysts tipping existing shareholder Tsinghua Unigroup as a possible buyer, although this prospect could create possible issues with regulators.

Could well hit 180 intraday before stabilising or falling back IMO

Quite a panic into the close sets up well for Monday

It is a short squeeze plus a lot of speculative buys.
We shall see but I still expect a very sharp fall at some point.

Whilst that is all true, the market clearly didn't see that at £1.

I reckon this might go for 190-220. Think this rise is mostly shorters running scared

Yes that's right Pottsey, MIPS is a good example here, IMG paid $100 million for it's share but many forget that most of the patents MIPS had were sold to a consortium which included ARM for over $340 million. The question here is, how much do people think it would cost a Samsung, a Mediatek or a Spreadtrum to create there own world leading GPU design from scratch, and to navigate the patent minefield while attempting to do so? Whatever number you arrive at, then add additional value for MIPS, Ensigma, Video Encode/Decode IP, Camera ISP IP, and not forgetting PowerVR Raytracing tech. Now add a potentially competitive bidding process and I think we have very interesting times ahead.
