15/6/2017 15:46 | This was only last year. “Tsinghua̵ Tsinghua’s $23 billion takeover bid for America’s Micron was blocked by the US government last year for national security reasons. And this February it pulled the plug on a bid to become the controlling shareholder of US computer storage group Western Digital after the US authorities flagged it for investigation. Imagination already has deals with Spreadtrum and RDA Microelectronics, two chipmakers bought in 2013 by Tsinghua | celeritas
15/6/2017 15:39 | Under former President Barack Obama, CFIUS stopped a series of attempted Chinese acquisitions of high-end chip makers. I would think a soon to be former supplier of Apple would fit the bill nicely. | celeritas
15/6/2017 15:31 | Its well known the US are uneasy about Chinese investment in the chip industry. Would the UK block such a deal for IMG. | celeritas
15/6/2017 15:29 | I said Apple wouldnt mess about. Who's a ramper anyway. A blind man on a galloping horse can see this is an out right steal, whether it be Intel, Ceva or a Chinese Co like Tsinghua Unigroup. | celeritas
15/6/2017 14:47 | Don't listen to the rampers on this board. MIPS & Ensigma remain loss-making businesses despite the rosy picture painted by IMG. Also, you think just when Intel are showing signs of gaining more business with the Iphone modems (and staying relevant in mobile) you think they would jeopardise their position by enforcing patents against Apple? | rbalakrishnan
15/6/2017 14:20 | I do wonder how Apple would take it if Intel bought them, reinforcing patents wouldn't be a problem as theres no doubt Apple are bullying img. | celeritas
15/6/2017 14:02 | While the Group has continued to invest in its MIPS and Ensigma businesses, it has now decided to actively market these businesses for sale, concentrate its resources on PowerVR and strengthen Imagination's balance sheet. MIPS is focused on the embedded processor markets, where it has a strong position, and completed a number of deals with major customers during the last financial year. It has continued to see design wins in networking, routers and DTV/STB and has made good progress in the mobile LTE modem and industrial IoT markets. MIPS also has a growing position in automotive through its relationship with Mobileye and is collaborating with a number of OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers. Ensigma offers leading, comprehensive IP licensing for connectivity in mobile computing, unmanned systems and IoT, with low power capability. Revenues more than doubled in H1 FY17 driven by strong licencing activity. This momentum has been maintained. MIPS and Ensigma have complementary capabilities in low power, connected devices providing end to end customer solutions with a strong security solution. | celeritas
15/6/2017 13:22 | Worth a read if you still don't believe that MIPS is a dying architecure. | rbalakrishnan
15/6/2017 11:59 | There might be a bidding war yet between Intel and Ceva, both must surely relish getting their hands on IMG. | celeritas
15/6/2017 11:49 | Supposedly. BT, Intercede and Imagination collaborate on IoT security | celeritas
15/6/2017 11:33 | Isn't MIPS for sale? | countryboy
15/6/2017 09:12 | Imagination launches the MIPS I6500-F, CPU IP designed for safety critical systems in an autonomous age | celeritas
14/6/2017 15:54 | someuwin - you are correct. They have already chosen their IP supplier. Note that is not plural. | sheep_herder
14/6/2017 09:18 | Similar chart to CMCX - profiting from a recovery (and bumper dividends) there too, with no-one on the message board... ;) | mister md
14/6/2017 09:07 | For sure, happy holding as a recovery play, just some patience required. Surprised not much thread poster interest here, still best get in whilst it's quiet before the momentum players move in. | ny boy
14/6/2017 09:03 | Well if Google are designing their own SoCs, they're gonna need some top graphics ip. | someuwin
14/6/2017 08:52 | Breakout underway | ny boy
14/6/2017 08:45 | intrigued, some positivity returning here ... ! | mister md
14/6/2017 08:02 | Google hires Apple chip architect: are custom chips coming to Pixel phones? Google is working on its own system on a chip - Jun 13, 2017 According to Variety, a recent hire at Google indicates big changes are coming for future versions of the Pixel phone. Manu Gulati, an Apple micro-architect who worked on the company’s chip development for nearly eight years, has just joined Google, announcing the hire today on his Linkedin profile. With a new title of lead SoC architect, Gulati’s move could, on the surface, arguably point to any number of Google SoC (system on a chip) developments. The company currently has none. It’s a new position for Google, which currently relies on third-party chips for all their products. Nest uses a chip by Texas Instruments, for example, while current Pixel phones use Qualcomm... | someuwin
07/6/2017 17:20 | According to this EETimes article Qualcomm's joint venture in China threatens Spreadtrum's competitiveness and therefore irks its parent company Tsinghua Unigroup. Spreadtrum also happens to use PowerVr and MIPS IP. The signing of the JV last month was also around the same time Tsinghua retook a 3% stake in IMG. I wonder whether the timing of these 2 events is more than coincidental? | rbalakrishnan
07/6/2017 12:28 | Sondrel completes acquisition of IMGWorks from Imagination | taffy100
02/6/2017 19:10 | Having another go at a breakout, should happen next week | ny boy
01/6/2017 08:08 | Update: Shorters bail out of another 596k or 0.2% of IMG shares. Shorters buy back 284k out of 850k traded on 25 May and 312k out of 850k traded on 26 May, supporting share price of 113 to 114p. | borromini1
31/5/2017 19:00 | In 2016, Tsinghua bought a 3% stake in img, stating it was a "financial investment, not a stragetic one". They then sold a fraction to go under 3%. Then supposedly sold their holding. So if they have again bought another 3% investment, why!? So far, no statement citing a "financial investment"!? I thought Tsinghua are in the market for acquisitions not short term gambling! | orkney |
