I think the weakest competitor is CMC. Their results have eroded. It is hard to say if Plus500 or IGG are in a better position. IGG's PE is much higher than that of Plus500 and their latest RNS was quite upbeat on new clients.

We'll see just what the interest level is as we approach the ex dividend day, until then I'll also keep buying the dips.

No, just general profit taking, as usual. That's what I did, took profits at circa 600p and been repurchasing for 5-6% less recently. If it drops more, I'll buy more, but expecting reversal within a few days. same old, same old. What's new?

Just normal trading and profit taking, imo. Look at the rise from Dec 2016 to mid 2018 from circa 450p to 950p - full of temporary pullbacks, before moving higher.

Seems the drop is in sympathy with PLUS, which dropped because the shorts increased.

Shorts in IGG did not increase.

This seems a bit strange to me, as I am holding IGG on the basis that it is the leader in its sector and is likely to benefit from weakness /demise of PLUS and the likes.
