A little bit perky today. Anyone heard anything? Strike settlement possibility? Or just talks starting with ACAS today?

You haven't seen anything yet. There are 4m+ households with prepayment meters that will be desperate to get their energy help vouchers through the post. As them people start dying off, it will be interesting to hearing what the 'union' responses are. Also, I can't work out when a 'gang' becomes a 'union' or when a 'union' becomes a 'gang', but my mind is working on it.

I actually don't have a problem with staffers taking the day off to go shopping on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

The data breach yesterday was amazingly bad - for an hour or so instead of seeing your own orders you got other peoples order details from ebay, amazon, shopify etc and could probably have manifested them.

I think it is clear now that the unions objective here is to force the RM to fail - knowing, or at least hoping that the government will be forced to nationalise it to protect the universal obligation last mile delivery service.

The unions calculate, probably correctly, that no government could not allow a situation where there were different prices for letters depending where you lived - eg £2 for the Highlands and 50p in London etc

There's 40,000 people that came over the English Channel this year gagging for work even though they'd need specialist training courses with shape sorting toys.

The Union do not seem to understand that they do not own the Company. With DK now allowed to bid for the whole Company they could all lose their jobs.
Cretins.

Ahhhh oh dear, possible data protection fine coming then. If RM does go bust, hopefully a new company or companies that take on the postal burden, will hire fresh staffers on modern contracts. That way it's a win-win situation for everybody, the unions can strike/protest to their hearts content.

Trouble at mill.....

Update - Royal Mail has temporarily suspended its Click and Drop website as a precautionary measure following reports that a limited number of customers were able to see information about other customers' orders following a technical problem. We are investigating the incident in order to fix the IT issue so that you can post as soon as possible.

I would bet that many people cut back on Christmas cards this year.

The cost of stamps now and cards themselves leads me to think those distant relatives you never see will be forgotten about in order to save money by thousands more this year.

I've heard several people say they will post early this year or send an email instead. Well if they reject the offer and carry on striking less junk mail for me to pick up from the doormat

Yes, 'people' do not send many letters anymore, but others do.

If people aren't sending letters they have to accept that. Who really sends letters these days? Other than Bills and Cards.
Even if it were free to send them, no one would!

I suspect that there is hope that if damaged enough, RM will have to be re-nationalized. I suppose it could be broken up the way that national rail was.

IDS will need to make cuts regardless. They cannot rely on christmas cards and junkmail to keep posties in work. I can see a time where there are less deliveries of letter mail and maybe more of the large parcels like couriers.

Yeah I agree careful, 2023 will be challenging for many firms and unemployment will go up.

Could this be a turning point?
The fear oF losing money and jobs is a powerful force.

The workers soon lose faith in the Union leadership when the prospect of hardship and reality takes hold.

By any measure, we are becoming a poorer country, irrespective of politics.

Amazon Meta and others are facing the same problem as Royal Mail. Tough decisions and reduced headcount a needed in order to survive on declining revenues.

Difficult times ahead.

"I know a few Postal Workers and all of them come across as very militant and see it as their Company to do as they please. They don't get the idea of private enterprise, even though they all shop and do nearly everything else via private Companies"

That's because they have been cosseted for far too long.

Harsh reality coming for ALL of us.

As a nation we have lived well beyond our means for far too long.
