Whilst esp. and dps and pegs are always a useful guide for assessing a company’s rating, it’s always worth looking behind the figures. For instance HPT headline earnings per share will be impacted by the issue of shares for Vantage and Sure Power as well as the exceptionals reported at the interims (substantially Sure Power related).
The benefits of Vantage acquisition now seem to be feeding through and in a much broader range of contract wins with commensurately higher margins and lessened economic exposure for the group.
The investment in Sure Power is a sunk cost but the rewards could be substantial.
Extract from Company’s in-house newsletter dated 5th August 2001
“Bill Frederick has been appointed as chief operating officer of Sure Power Corporation to bring his extensive experience of managing design and construction to the Sure Power process. Product development has been concluded, supply chain relationships have been cemented, and the team is addressing a wide range of enquiries”
For me, the per (which looks to be about 7 for 2001 post exceptionals) is already history.
It’s the potential that's attractive. To the best of my knowledge none of the broker forecsats include any contribution from the Sure Power tie-up (certainly true of Collins Stewart, the text of which I've seen)

Biomax - I don't disagree with you in principle. You might have missed my posts on the other HPT thread!

Take a look at SYSTEMS INTERGRATED RESEARCH plc.

EPIC SYI

Perfectly formed double bottom on chart.

Rising constantly of late, only todays scare with the market knocked a few points off it.

Contracts with Microsoft and NTL

Used in more and more schools every week.

Subscription revenues to come in soon and new programmes to be scheduled for digital and interactive TV

Money on hand, is seeking share enhancing aquisitions

Just broke through resistance, price now 41p chart shows next resistance at 58p

PEG FACTOR 0.49

EARNINGS PER SHARE GROWTH RATE 54%

Rises on very small volumes.

What are your views?
The double bottom gives a strong buy signal.

Hope you find this of use, if so let me know.

Cheers IvoR

so, what?
The main message
1) HPT is doing in line with expectation which coresponds pretax 2.8 mln
2) outlook is encouraging,
with non demanding PE 5/7 it is not too bad

Fortunately, was lucky last time. Recognised today's trend and got back in at 51.75p, but couldn't get as many as wanted before the price started running away. Oh well, lets be pleased with the few thou picked up!

Incredibly illiquid stock (nms 2000 shares). The price falls at the beginning of the week were on volumes that were at a lot less than todays.

Looks like the market's been caught short of stock, judging by the current price action.

Hmm... on the other hand, I could be wrong. Its just that I'm not brave.

I'm very sure today's announcement was to reassure the market in the light of the big shareprice drop over the last two days. The more so because it was so obviously rushed out, and that is evident from the old news it contains. Some of the stuff it says has been up on the company's website for weeks!

As I said, I'm watching. Actually watching closely, but in markets like these, it would be a very brave person who reckons that today's price is the lowest it will go before it turns around and starts going decisively up!

Shy t, surely the annoucement was because they believe the shareprice to have dropped unnecessarily; and so they sought to reassure the mkt

2.5- 3 mln pretax is not historic, its 2001 forecast.

if pe 5-7 is not low enough, which stocks are you holding?

Biomax - what you are missing is the fact that the p/e ratio you quote is historical, and forecasts (all forecasts) are for a big drop in eps for the next results. At the current buy price of 51p, the p/e ratio for the year which ended 31/7/01 is likely to be around seven and a half. That, IMHO, does not look attractive when the direction of earnings is down from the previous year, (and also in the context of the second part of CB7's post above).

HPT today announced new contracts win,
both in china and russia, in both regions economies are booming compare to other emerging markets

HPT also said trading is in line with expectation, which corresponds to 2.5-3 mln pretax profit.
This compares well with current market cap 12 mln, resulting in pe 5

they should know by now that results will be ok as financial yr ended 31/7......
but 5.5m of contracts in last 6mths doesnt sound alot when t/o is 14m per half??

todays announcement in line with expectation sounds interesting.
Because expectation are about 3 mln pretax profit, which puts the co on PE 4,
am i missing something?

Cat, I'm into hedge funds, have been for a while, my clients too. I am the one with golden balls, and 7 or 8 lives still in tact. Been creaming all over the place :-)

Just tried an e mail. Couldn't remember your surname :-( Bloody dullard. It's my new pc, I don't have my old addie book.
