Brazil has produced a total of 2.7 million tonnes of fertilisers from January this year till April and has imported a total of 5.65 million tonnes – up by 3.5 per cent – from 5.46 million, compared to its imports during the same period last year, it added.

Brazil’s economy is largely driven by its agriculture sector, heavily exporting cattle meat, corn, soy beans, coffee, sugar and palm oil, among others.

Industry experts have predicted the country’s fertiliser market will continue to grow, with demand reaching up to 31 million tonnes, it stated.

Soul - give me surface mining anyday! Also I think you were right earlier when you said TW had put the kybosh on this on Friday. After such a stupendous rise last week his followers would be inclined to short the living daylights out of it today. And buyers would probably be holding back until they have closed. I think we will see a resumption of the rising price soon though, fuelled again by shorts closing.

Chris - I'm sure we all wish we had sold the lot on Friday and bought back lower but that's share dealing for you!

CC the SXX mine will not even be ready until 2021 at the earliest and with a 1500m shaft to drop a pit top to build and miles of tunnel to shipping then I can see that extending.

I know a little bit about mining having worked in one and it ain't that easy.

Soul - interesting to note that SXX is now worth £1.024 BILLION and this is still only just over £16m yet is closer to production and profit margins are way higher. You couldn't make it up!

I think the profit takers are finished for the latest rise and on that basis I have just added a further tranche of HMI to my portfolio. I still cannot understand why people would overlook this star with a simple low cost business like this with a near term prospect of drilling, digging out at surface and selling potash locally in preference to a massively capitalised non-producing cash hungry operation like Sirius. Somebody please enlighten me. Meanwhile, enjoy the ride here as people must be doing the sums and there will be much more upside imho
