WE're in a market environment where you need to beat expectations in order for the share price to stay flat. There's much you can do as an investor in this scenario - either try to time the market both in moving to cash and then moving back in, or just checking that your companies are trading ok, have sensible balance sheets and cashflow etc.

I didn't think the trading update was that bad, I thought it was rather good considering the current climate.

I hadn t realised Hl.were due to update tomorrow

Was aware of AJ Bell update tomorrow

Have stayed out for past few weks but have had a bit of brainstorm and gone long STJ Might have to pop into sock drawer if it doesn t pan out and looking at the lack of any meaningful movement over last few days am not at all hopeful

The market is scared and unwilling to jump one way or the other

Just keep collecting the dividends and avoid those banana skins
Good luck

@Stoopid, what you do need to be aware of this week for HL is that there's a Q1 trading update on Thursday (19 Oct) - that will cover 1 July to 30 Sept.

Oh and I've just realised that rival AJ Bell have a full year trading update on the same day!

Yes @lomax99 no read across at all, FCA are looking at exit fees and set up fees, HL don't do those and haven't for ages now.

Would only apply to the wealth management to business surely? None of the other current fee structures would be affected surely?

This SJP thing seems an over-reaction as far as HL are concerned. HL are down 4% and yet AJB are only down 1.5%.

SJP are a different type business to HL, and it's been known for years that their advisory fees are inflated. Their shares are down over 16% today. Tempting looking yield of 7.65% so I've bought a few at 684.6p, as it seems overdone - especially as they haven't even made any decisions yet. I suspect it'll be a bit like HL in 2014 when the RDR came in for investment platforms... there was a reduction in charges, but that was soon made up for due to increased assets under management and more clients.

Ah, yes, regulator has told them to sort out their charging structure. The FT are saying even the current small changes could knock 8% off 2024 earnings.Knock on effect and not good news I suppose as HL tries to build its own wealth business...

Might have something to do with its peer St James Place having issues with charges - see their RNS.
