Cyan,
That's what I love about these boards, the never ending hope that this event or that event will be a springboard that elevates this to new highs despite the Coronavirus taking hold around the developed world, slowing demand while the supply side is set to go into overdrive.
Have you asked yourself why this and Rockhopper were hit so hard today?
Or why the bonds lost 20% and are now trading well below par?
The company faces a choice, issue up to 1.5b more shares into a depressed market veering away from dirty oil to buy ageing assets that are most likely operating at a loss or pay back the best part of $2b in just over a year with oil at sub $35.

The business model isn't working.

An interesting link courtesy of a LSE PMO poster; a date for your diary.

Extract;

"The next several days will be crucial, as we hear statements from Saudi
and Russia, to see what kind of mating-dance they might be going through.
Another meeting of the Joint Technical Committee, that includes
representatives of Russia and Saudi, remains on the books for March 18."

What I am more worry about that the Saudis and the Russians will try to bleed the US out by any cost.Dollar is oil nothing else. US has been printing dollars for decades. This could end up for the US and us for really badly.Hope I am wrong.

How the hell can you do the old “told you so” routine when the root cause of this meltdown has been the coronavirus epidemic?

NHS England figures show that approximately 17000 people die each year of Flu.
COVID19 is expected to kill 350.

The herd mentality has cost thousands of jobs and will send hundreds of companies to the wall.

The press are the single most unscrupulous sector who are directly responsible for the current financial and medical rumour mill.. costing real people their livelihoods..

Rosneft have announced the biggest oil project anywhere. It's needed to replace production of some of the more mature Russian fields. Novak says Russian production will decline after 2021.

But Vostok needs $157 Billion to develop it.

I'm sure the break even is well north of current oil price. So Russia needs to get the oil price up to make the Artic projects viable and stop them losing market share over next decade .

It may shut down the shale but as soon as the price rises the shale producers will be up and running very quickly. So quick the bigger companies can't replicate the fast shut down and restart time frames

Maybe part of their strategy: get rid of some of the higher cost producers in the USA over the next 12 months and then they can raise the price.

I can't see the Russians coming back any time soon... it would make them look weak and that is something Putin can't tolerate... this will take time to work out, and there will be lots of company failures along the way...

Just a gamble for some, some were brave enough to buy earlier and closed for near double, good days work!

Not an investment, all the junior oilers with large debts will not survive as oil prices are set to stay low for the rest of the year. Just gamblers trading in and out but that is high risk, can easily fall into single digits after a few months.
