Utlimate warrior. I think the key question to ask is....how busy is your gym?

I actually belong to 2 gyms.....a Virgin active that I pay £150 a month (and that is subsidised rate) and a Gym group one which I pay £17 a month. Basically 1 years Gym group membership costs me just over 1 months Virgin Active. Virgin is a premium offering and yet they still have plenty of equipment that break down and take a few weeks to repair. In terms of free weight areas Gym group leaves Virgin Active in its shadows. Where Virgin excels is in its Classes and SPAs.

I think for the money you pay......Gym group is the leader of the pack and you get to uses all their gyms for just a couple quid more.

Additionally, unlike the other gym operators, GYM LN is a listed company with a very healthy balance sheet. This reassures landlords and leads to GYM LN being able to take the best locations when competing for those with other gym operators.

Member satisfaction is top notch for industry standards. Also price is the lowest, even among the low-cost operators.

Hi, any idea on who might have been looking at them for a takeover? Interesting timing, now that John Treharne started to step away.

That's fair enough rathdean I've moved from an area which is dominated by council gyms toOne that isn't - the gym group do well here - that isn't to suggest its a dream gym to use which it isn't - you get what you pay for imho Good luck all holders

I am a member, also used several other franchises and The Gym remains the best option by some distance. My local Gym has just undergone a big refurb, no complaints here and a happy medium term investor.

As a member of these gyms you realise this group has flaws - broken machines are not changed as often as they should - less staff, if there's an immediate problem sometimes there is no staff Good in a recession - but that doesn't mean it's people's first choice imho

Shareprice is off by almost 25% over the past few weeks, impacted by the current market downturn. No position here yet but keeping a close eye on a potential entry level.

According to my sources the expectations of a takeover have receded and several of the directors have sold shares and taken their profits.

I have only recently added GYM to my high yielding asset portfolio as I believe once the director sales are digested not only will the share price bounce by 50p but a takeover is still in the offing.

Some pretty chunky director sales here recently. Senior non-exec selling 200k out of his 380k odd is a bit worrying imo.

Was wondering what the sudden (but most welcomed) rise in share price was... Must have been that note.

Good to see institutions agreeing on the fundamentals of the business. From a technical perspective it is looking pretty strong with a nice cup&handle (saucer&handle) from which we have been taking ATH's.

Upwards & onwards.

from8to800, I think it's a good sign that clubs are brimming to the rim. It means its assets are being utilized. I've recently join a virgin active gym in the city and pay in 1 month what I pay for a years membership at gym. I've decided that at such cheap rates, I will keep gym group as my home gym (being Lewisham). Got to say the free weight equipment at gym group is much better than that available at virgin. I am not the only one in the office the belongs to two gyms and use the Gym group as their backup local gym.
