Yes , holding has been the right decision so far, but I get a bit nervous after steady rises.Gyrus share price is pretty hard to guage in absence of a dividend, so I feel it rides a lot on sentiment .My wifes broker (NatWest)bought more of these than I would have a few yrs ago, and finally is looking like a good buy.I will sell half at some point but am pleased I listened to your Hold advice last month. One problem I find with brokers targets is that they never specify a timescale .I predict Gyrus will be £10 , but may be several yrs!

Wad, This further rise is just the sort of event that pursuades me not to trade in and out. I was expecting a pause and then out of the blue off we go again. I certainly could not have predicted Morgan Stanley's change of sentiment, or the share price reaction. UBS for example reiterated their BUY rec on the 19th March and increased their target to 510p, just below MS' 517p. Perhaps MS is more influencial or their analyst more respected?

Sine April 1st , the EEC has adopted new instrument sterilisation rules which make it very inconvenient to re-sterilise medical instruments without some tedious regulation. This is now fueling the re-useable instrument sector.Gyrus are not a big supplier but it will benefit from a gradual sea change in attitude IMHO.

Good spot mm, thx. The full snippet... "Morgan Stanley raises its price target to 517p from 419p and is overweight on the stock. The broker says:'Our prior base case looks too conservative; we now believe that US general surgery could generate 2012 sales of $128 million versus our prior projection of $47 million.'"

Investors Chronicle view on results - a few snippets: 'Once again, Gyrus has taken on the dollar and won. Trading at the surgical devices manufacturer was hit by currency fluctuations, but it still managed a robust performance, with operating profits up 84 per cent, year on year, to £19.1m, boosted by the acquisition of ACMI in 2005. Gross margins improved to 59.3 per cent from 55.6 per cent last year.' 'Executive chairman Brian Steer says the integration is going well and that Gyrus is "over the major hurdles". Indeed, with the exception of the flat sales at the ear, nose and throat division, revenue growth was strong. Sales in the surgical division grew 40 per cent in the period, to £52.5m, thanks to the buoyant US laparoscopic hysterectomy market. The roll-out of the PlasmaCision products into general surgery is also going well and should benefit the results this year. There is no word yet on who will take over from Mr Steer, who retires at the end of 2007, although he says there should be an update at the half-year results. Broker Numis Securities expects adjusted pre-tax profits of £40.4m for 2007 (£27.5m in 2006), with EPS of 20.6p (17.1p in 2006), rising to 25.5p in 2008.' 'The shares have had a strong run and trade on a pricey 21 times 2007's expected earnings, falling to 17 times for 2008. But, with excellent growth prospects ahead, expect more upside. Long-term good value.'

Hi wad, I'm buy and hold, I sell when the story is no longer attractive or alternatively when I lose interest in the company. I will take profits but only if the shares get ludicrously overvalued. Gyrus looks like its might be pausing for the moment but I'm in for the long term and cannot see the point of trading in and out just in case something happens. This area of the market appears to be attracting private equity interest and we may yet get some takeover speculation to drive it on further. Regards, Maddox

He (or she or it?) put a useful link on Cadburys BB. I'm not sure where GYG is going now ,I am wondering about taking a reasonable profit, perhaps sell half?

Hi wad, I'm a little surprised about the dividend too. Nevertheless, the City liked the results up 3.7% as I post to 444p which is the most important aspect, and they can hold the dividend for later. Regards, Maddox

Seems a bit of a sharp fall today for no obvious reason.Market correction , profit taking whatever , wonder if it represents the beginning of a slide or a glitch on the gradual progress.Truth is , I have no idea.
