Erbil-Baghdad Talks on Budget Positive: KRG Spokesperson

ERBIL - Negotiations between Erbil and Baghdad on the budget disputes are ongoing and positive, Jotiar Adil, a spokesperson for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), said on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference following a cabinet meeting chaired by PM Masrour Barzani, the KRG spokesperson pointed out that Erbil and Baghdad are close to reaching a final agreement on the disputes related to the budget.

He noted that the KRG is "serious" about all of its constitutional commitments in regards with its agreements with the federal government.

Concerning the KRG's budget law for the year of 2021, Jotiar said that the majority of ministries have prepared their data of expenditures and revenues, indicating that the budget law would possibly be ready within the next 10 days and be sent to the parliament.

Erbil and Baghdad are yet to reach a final agreement on the Kurdistan Region's share from the federal budget for the current year. However, both sides are now quite positive that they will soon resolve the issue.
