Iraq Parliament Clears Longstanding Pay Dispute over Kurdish Oil

Iraq’s parliament passed a long-awaited plan to boost payments to oil companies in the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region, a step toward resuming exports from the area that were halted almost two years ago.
The assembly on Sunday voted in favor of a plan approved by the cabinet in November that would amend the budget to allow Baghdad to pay out $16 a barrel for oil production and transportation, according to a statement.
While that moved forward Iraq’s negotiations for a deal with the Kurdistan Regional Government, it was still below the $26 a barrel that Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has said oil firms get from their current contracts in the region. |

So lets see what happens now with most of the risk removed and the Kurds taking control of the pipeline in ~ 6 months. Its a whole new ballgame. Will they take the brakes off the share price ?

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has welcomed the parliament’s approval of amendments to the federal budget law, describing it as a responsible and constructive step, according to an official statement published by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) on Sunday.
Al-Sudani also urged both the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Federal Ministry of Oil to immediately begin implementing the revised provisions of the budget.
Iraqi government spokesperson Basm al-Awadi emphasized that the parliament’s vote on the amendments, which align with the text proposed by the Council of Ministers, marks a significant milestone in ensuring political stability and strengthening cooperation between the executive and legislative branches.
"This decision reflects the high level of cooperation between the government and parliament, reinforcing a shared commitment to accelerating development, reconstruction, and reform efforts," al-Awadi stated.
He further stressed that the government remains dedicated to addressing challenges with a strong sense of responsibility, prioritizing Iraq’s supreme national interests.
Call for Immediate Action on Oil and Resources
Following the amendment's passage, al-Sudani called on the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Ministry of Oil to swiftly implement the revised provisions, ensuring the optimal utilization of the country's natural resources, particularly its oil wealth.
"Let this resource serve as a pillar of stability and a driving force for further achievements in national development programs that meet the needs of our people," he concluded.
The budget amendment is expected to play a key role in fostering greater economic cooperation between the Iraqi federal government and the Kurdistan Region, addressing longstanding disputes over oil revenues and resource management.

Personally I think it's a bit early for any tankers to load from the KRG Pier at Ceyhan. I feel a few; "minor details" might need ironing out?, nevertheless these 3 big beauties can come sailing in - as they are all slated for Ceyhan so who knows.

Those with a memory for ship names, will remember a ship called Nissos Kea, a VLCC. ( Very Large Crude Carrier ).

2 Millions barrel capacity on it's own. She rocked up in March 2023 to Ceyhan anchorage, then left mysteriously after 3 or 4 months, then sailed to Aqaba, Jordan in the Red Sea (Unheard of voyages). Then loaded and sailed to China... Jordan doesn't have crude production and generally imports crude.
Nissos Kea and Nissos Paros have same owners/operators BTW.
Folegrandos owners know the Lemos family, who bankrolled the excalibur trial... Nothing to see really, all coincidental.. maybe.
Should be fun on watch tomorrow, notable absentee from BB is Bigdog, late on watch is sackable offence.

This should be a “hear we go” if it were a football transfer. Still wreckon there will be some negotiating required by the IOCs so awaiting APIKUR statements in earnest. Will this have some drama, no doubt it’s GKP and it’s been a long haul. If we stay independent then the dividends will be significant, however given what lies underneath greater Shaikan needs a couple of big boys. The KRG will know and GKP better drive a hard bargain! |
