KRG Negotiating Team with Baghdad to Address MPs at Kurdistan Parliament

ERBIL - The Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) negotiating team with Baghdad is expected to attend a session of Kurdistan Parliament to brief the lawmakers on the delegation's recent meetings with the federal government.

Saman Ahmed Bakir, a spokesperson for the parliament, said in a statement that the Ministers of Finance, State, Planning, the Head of Divan, and several others high-profile officials will also accompany Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani to attend the session on Monday, December 28.

They will hold meetings with the presidency of the parliament, heads of parliamentary blocs, and committees of finance, economic affairs, legislative affairs, energy and natural resources so to update them on the ongoing talks with Baghdad.

The KRG's negotiating team visited Baghdad about two weeks ago and held a great number of meetings with a variety of leaders and political parties in the efforts to reach a final agreement to resolve the disputes between Erbil and Baghdad.

ERBIL — The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is expecting the federal government of Iraq to send Erbil’s share from the recently passed fiscal deficit law before the end of this year, said KRG Spokesperson Jotiar Adil.

Despite the fact that the Iraqi factions passed the law in the absence of the Kurdish representatives, Erbil agreed to abide by the law as a move to show its goodwill for a durable agreement with the federal government.

“The Kurdistan Regional Government reaffirms that it is ready for continued dialogue with the Iraqi government, but we will not compromise on our constitutional financial entitlements,” Adil told reporters after a cabinet meeting where the KRG negotiating team briefed the council of ministers on the progress made in the negotiations.

The Kurdistan Region has agreed to all the conditions and it is fully ready for an agreement with Baghdad, its spokesperson said, emphasizing that Iraq now has no excuse to delay the deal.
