Famous last words that will come back to haunt you: It will never happen.

It’s unclear at the moment just how rapidly “clean power” will come to the masses but it does seem certain that it will come to pass within Europe long before it is forced upon the US. It has to be said of course that "clean" should only be understood in relative terms.
China and India, while still far down the development curve, have major conurbations that suffer very badly from air pollution – both vehicular and industrial. Their people are already waking up to the health consequences of unregulated growth of such pollution and the Covid pandemic will only increase the sensitivity / vulnerability people feel about such matters. In many countries, major metropolitan conurbations are already literally choking to death.

What does seem clear, however, is that there will be a mix – of internal combustion fuels (hydrocarbon fluids and -gas, hydrogen) and Electric. The fact that the E-generating capacity is not and will not be sufficient to meet expected demand for many years should not blind you to the fact that major change is coming.

Whether we like it or not, European leaders are all pretty well signed-up to a low-carbon future and stiff penalties on using hydrocarbon fuels, whether for central heating or for transport, are certain. Such penalties are easy to apply – fuel tax increases, coupled with car-free days & -weekends are already in use. Just look at how more and more European cities are experimenting with such ideas.
The marked decrease in business flights due to Covid will have severe and long-lasting consequences for airlines and their service partners and not all of this can be compensated for by holiday traffic.

One significant change IMO will be the increasing use of Hybrid technology; Toyota already offers hybrid on all its new offerings. Hybrid power is ideal for short journeys of less than 30 miles – obviously if you plan to drive 400 miles with the kids and bikes or surfboards and baggage for 4 then it’s a very different picture. In the long run some of us (the lucky ones with room to park them!) will end up having a big beast and a small beastie – horses for courses if you like.

The use for hydrocarbons for making plastic parts and -packaging will similarly be greatly reduced in the coming years. Whales with plastic bags in their guts, Dolphins entangled in plastic nets, micro-particles in eggs and in our bodies – all of these have significant emotional impact and will result in change happening, whether we like it or not, green wellies or not.

Perhaps Goldman Sachs will be proved correct, perhaps there will be one final Hurrah for Oil, but ask yourselves – will the necessary capital investment be forthcoming, and will it be better targeted at easier to process- and more rewarding blends?

It is going to be a very uncertain future for many of us and betting the farm on a company like GKP would be foolhardy in the extreme.

Good find Bravedog.

All this rubbish about "zero Carbon" and " no more petrol/diesel cars" by 2035 is just BS designed to keep the green welly brigade ( and naive muppets ) on board and voting Conservative.

It will never happen. The majority of voters will not support it. Particulary when they find out how their taxes are going to have to rise to pay for it all.

IMO

Has highlander7 found all his deleted posts yet? Has he explained why he had to delete them? No of course not, no need as we all realise it was because he get's everything wrong.

Then there's hab SHAM having to spin everything to desperately con others into thinking he knows what he spouts about. Its hilarious to watch.

Have a look for articles that speak about all the advancements being made with hydrogen power cos the company has plenty of that.

highlander7, you said yesterday you would bring us all up to date on everything. Post it up. Also, how's the easy and fast rehiring coming along?

In particular explain what the "tweaks" will entail that the company mentioned. You can be specific, we'll know if you get it correct:-)

Good find BD. Green energy is a move to reduce the chaos that is coming, millions that are use to having transport will be having to take the train soon. POO at $200 not far off . Thorium reactors should have been used decades ago.

In Southern Australia, the consequence of the irregularity of the wind is that the grid will soon break down.

They found the solution!

”The extravagantly costly ‘solutionsR17; to South Australia’s renewable energy disaster included 276 MW worth of diesel-fuelled Open Cycle Turbines that chew up 80,000L an hour.
Another ‘solution̵7; was the installation of 210MW worth of reciprocating engines at Barker Inlet next to AGL’s 1,280MW Torrens Island gas-steam plant. In an attempt to fill (and profit from) the precipitous gaps depicted above, AGL spent $295 million on 12 Wartsila 50DF reciprocating engines with a capacity of 18MW .
These units are, in fact, giant ship engines, which can run on either gas, diesel or bunker fuel – the benefit of which is that they can reach their peak load within about five minutes of start-up. Ideal for responding to routine wind and solar power output collapses of the kind that have plagued South Australia for years. With gas supplies often tight in SA, these machines are frequently run on ‘liquid fuel’ – ie heavy fuel oil, rather than gas.”

Dana selling assets for as much as $236 mil

It will retain two Egyptian concessions

Sale to help company focus on Iraqi Kurdish assets

Dubai — The UAE's publicly listed Dana Gas has agreed to sell the majority of its Egyptian assets to a private exploration and production operator IPR Wastani Petroleum for up to $236 million in a bid to focus on its operations in Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdish region.

Dana Gas, which started talks to divest the assets in Q2 of 2019, is selling its 100% working interests in the El Manzala, West El Manzala, West El Qantara and North El Salhiya onshore concessions and associated development leases, it said in a statement Oct. 25. It is retaining its interests in onshore and offshore exploration concessions, the El Matariya (Block 3) and North El Arish (Block 6), and "will actively pursue maximizing the value of these assets," it added.

The Egyptian assets being sold produced 30,950 boe/d in H1 and contributed $38 million to the company's Ebitda, it said. The sale, subject to approval by the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, is expected to be completed in early 2021, it said.

"Completion of the sale process will allow us to strengthen our balance sheet and focus our attention on the development of our world class assets in the (Kurdish region of Iraq) KRI, of which our current share of reserves are over 1 billion barrels of oil equivalent, with considerably more resources for realization and development," CEO Patrick Allman-Ward said in the statement.

You need to get more original Doggie , because looking back you have posted this " we are doomed because of electric cars" nonsense 5 times before.

You have no idea what an energy balance equation is but simply put hydrocarbon based electrical power generation has an efficiency of ~ 30 %. in laymans terms , 70% of the energy goes up the chimney. So work out the power charging requirements for all these electric cars you keep rabbiting on about and you will soon see the reality. We will not generate enough electricity for ~ 15 -20 years.

Add to that the installing of millions of charging points and the redesigning and updating of the UK Electricity Distribution system ( National Grid ) which is already near maximum capacity, and you will see why I think 15 years in a gross underestimate.

Hydrocarbon use as fuel for cars is in fact only a part of total demand. On top of that population growth in the next 10 years is predicted to be + 2 billion. All wanting a US lifestyle. i.e More power generation /more consumer goods etc etc . Nuclear will NOT be here in time. Nor will voters agree to covering the planet in Solar Cells and even more expensive Wind Turbines. So hydrocarbons will be with us for a while yet.

Even with demand forecast to outstrip supply next year , Offshore Oil with production costs /BBL ranging from ~ $30 - $40 is no longer viable . So the emphasis now will be on Onshore Companies with low OPEX.

Which is what makes GKP , with its $2 - $3 a bbl production cost such an obvious target to the likes of China.

Goldmans have predicted one final ONSHORE Oil & Gas Boom and thats what we are waiting for.

I hear the prodigal BBBS returned to tell us there's 25 billion bsrrels of oil to come out of Sahikan? Is this true? I first invested here when I was 18, believe it or not, just £500, but gave up the game soon after. Not really my thing. But a mate of mine told me to look in. Cheers guys.
