Shafaq News / A high-level delegation from the Iraqi Ministry of Defense is sought to visit Kurdistan Region to agree on a joint mechanism for redeploying the Peshmerga forces in the disputed areas between Erbil and Baghdad.

A source in the Peshmerga Ministry told Shafaq News agency, "We are expecting the delegation's visit, perhaps tomorrow or early next week", explaining that the purpose of the visit is to reach an agreement over the mechanism of redeployment of the Peshmerga forces in the disputed areas.

The source indicated that the Peshmerga Ministry had reached a three-point agreement with the Ministry of Defense regarding redeployment in those areas, adding that it will be according to the deployment schedule set before 2014.

It is noteworthy that the Peshmerga and Asayish security forces withdrew from the disputed areas after a military campaign launched by the Iraqi forces supported by Al-Hash Al-Shaabi in mid-October of 2017, under the pretext of the independence referendum held by Kurdistan Region on September 25 of the same year.

Erbil (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani said a meeting on Tuesday with the head of the United Nations' mission in Iraq that any agreement between the regional and federal government must be fair to both sides.

The meeting came during the most recent bout of talks between Baghdad and Erbil about a variety of ongoing and seemingly intractable issues that the successive administrations of each have not been able to solve, including budgetary disputes, security, and disputed territories.

In a social media posted later in the day, Barzani wrote that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) “is ready to make a deal that's fair and consistent with both sides’ rights and duties under the constitution.”

Kurdish officials nearly always speak of the Iraqi constitution in such statements without a clear explanation, largely in reference to the disputed territories on which they feel the KRG is on much more solid legal ground than the federal government. Article 140 outlines a process to officially decide whether such lands are to be considered within or outside the autonomous Kurdistan Region, a process that has still never been implemented, over a decade past its constitutional deadline.

"Why would GKP complete SH-13 in the Lower Jurassic Butmah formation? They already now have SH-12 on sustained Butmah production. The shallower SAM formation gives higher productivity, so on that basis it makes sense to complete SH-13 in the SAM in order to achieve the 55,000 bopd. The Butmah can be developed more fully later".
