Kurdish delegation in Baghdad to address salaries crisis Kurdistan Erbil Baghdad Salaries Delegation Kurdish delegation in Baghdad to address salaries crisis 2025-01-19 09:46
Font Shafaq News/ On Sunday, a senior Kurdish delegation, led by Finance Minister Awat Sheikh Janab, arrived in Baghdad to negotiate solutions to the ongoing salaries crisis in the Kurdistan region. A source in the Kurdish Ministry of Finance and Economy confirmed that the delegation will meet with Iraq's Federal Finance Minister, Taif Sami, to discuss mechanisms for resolving salary payment delays. The visit comes on the heels of Kurdish President Nechirvan Barzani’s trip to Baghdad, during which he held discussions with key federal government and political leaders. Barzani's agenda focused on finding long-term solutions to the financial impasse, particularly regarding unpaid salaries in the Kurdistan region. President Barzani also attended a meeting of the State Administration Coalition (SAC), which included Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani and Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani. The SAC emphasized that the salary issue is not politically motivated and can be resolved through technical negotiations, urging both sides to avoid media-driven escalation. The salaries crisis has persisted into 2025, sparking widespread public frustration in the Kurdistan region. The delay in disbursing salaries, including the December 2024 payment, has led to economic strain and heightened demands for immediate action. Observers highlight the need for Baghdad and Erbil to adhere to court rulings and prioritize dialogue over political disputes to prevent further destabilization. |
There would be no alternative as I see it. International support would also be there for sure! |

@zoomnewskrd #BREAKING: The Iraqi Parliamentary Finance Committee says they held a meeting today to discuss amendments to the federal budget law, focusing on amending Article 12 to address production cost calculations for Kurdistan Region's oil, describing it as a step towards resolving disputes with the KRG over resumption of oil exports.
In a statement, the committee emphasizes the need for the KRG to export its oil through the Iraqi state-owned SOMO company and to ensure transparency and partnership by clarifying production field management.
The committee also urges the government to expedite the submission of the 2025 budget to the Iraqi parliament, ensuring that all financial matters related to the amendments, such as settling oil revenues and other dues owed to the central government, are addressed. |

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is set to send a delegation to Baghdad in the next few days to address longstanding political and technical issues, marking another step toward enhancing relations between Erbil and Baghdad.
Samir Hawrami, head of Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani's office, announced during a recent press conference that a KRG delegation will soon visit Baghdad to tackle unsolved matters between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Iraqi federal government.
“There are both political and technical issues between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Iraqi government,” Hawrami clarified, noticing that current discussions have made important strides toward mutual understanding, especially in terms of the implementation of laws.
He also acknowledged that political meddling remains a factor that could potentially hinder progress.
"More serious efforts are planned for 2025 to enduringly solve these pending issues," he highlighted, emphasizing the necessity for greater commitment to finding lasting solutions.
Progress Through Dialogue
Hawrami emphasized the recurrent exchange of delegations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad as a positive approach to detecting and tackling shortcomings.
While technical discussions have reportedly resulted in a significant degree of understanding, unsolved political factors remain a focal challenge.
The impending visit intends to build on this progress by nurturing further dialogue on disputatious issues, which include budget allocations, oil revenues, and the implementation of constitutional agreements.
Commitment to Resolution
The KRG’s refreshed efforts underline its commitment to attaining a stable and cooperative relationship with Baghdad.
The arranged visit will potentially center on reinforcing agreements that ensure fair resource distribution and respect for regional autonomy, in line with Iraq’s federal constitution.
The success of these discussions could set the tone for a more cooperative 2025, with both sides working toward solving disagreements that have historically strained their relationship. |
