I can see what I wrote is ambiguous.

Transfers between spouses are not tax events. But if someone gifts shares to someone who is not a spouse then CGT may be due in the normal way because the gift counts as a disposal.

I think the CGT allowance is currently £11,700.

And the CGT would be payable by the person gifting the shares because the transfer counts as a disposal.

Think again, then.

You can transfer shares to anyone without using a stockbroker and, provided no money changes hands, there is no stamp duty to pay. If you make the gift to anyone other than your spouse, capital gains tax may be payable if they go above their £7,200 annual CGT-free limit

In MoneyWeek the chap who runs claverhouse investment trust chooses gsk as one of 3 shares he wants to own now...for the same reasons sogoesit mentions above. I think market sentiment moving in the right direction for this stock - no doubt be girations as usual but a trip to new (5yr) highs can’t be ruled out.

Matt, although it's an undisclosed amount, I also think it's not large. The business sold produces rabies vaccine which (being largely a third world market) is probably sold at low mark up?

1 Crore is approx 100k. So turnover is about £20m - not significant in the scheme of things.

- re-structuring >> oncology p/line; Pfizer JV then demerge etc.
