I'm over 60 and I've just had Covid as have the rest of my family. It was like winter flu and I was much worse in 2015 when Sars was about. So please don't get excited about this.

There could be a problem coming for BIG pharma caused by Omicron

-------------- Omicron and the threat it poses --------------

There are actually some people that believe this variant is a good development, buywell is not one of them

The UK should hit 200 cases tomorrow --- this proved a critical number for Delta cases as it then progressed rapidly in an exponential manner doubling every week

As buywell has posted , Omicron should be twice as transmissible based upon the explosion of cases in South Africa circa 250 cases mid november to over 11,500 cases on friday last week

It has been reported that the first surge in UK cases of Omicron involved over 50% of double jabbed people --- this data having been provided by the UKHSA which said that the fully vaccinated accounted for 60 per cent of the 20 Omicron infections traced where vaccination status was known, with the unvaccinated accounting for 30 per cent and 10 per cent having had one dose

Hence the spread and rise in the number of Omicron cases is a given in the current state of lax preparedness and restrictions on people mixing and attending parties , visiting pubs restaurants as though there was no problem to deal with

It has also just been reported by the UKHSA (UK Health and Security Agency )that data analysis has indicated that
" the window between infection and infectiousness may be shorter for the Omicron variant ".

The WHO have stated that as yet there are no deaths due to Omicron --- but buywell asks :

What about the knock on effects of catching Omicron not once but multiple times in the wake of having no effective vaccine for it ?

The UKHSA have also said that acquiring Omicron makes monoclonal antibody treatments less effective --- herein lies another big problem as these are used for many types of cancer treatments , and the number of people that are now living with cancer and are expected to have cancer is put by Macmillan at now 3M up to 4M by 2030

buywell opines that Omicron will mean people with cancer on monoclonal antibody therapy will die sooner than they would have --- will the fatalities be put down to Covid-19 ? --- NO they won't because of the 28 day rule

buywell expects further data will soon cast light on the long term damage that Omicron also causes

Hence in conclusion there is nothing good about Omicron --- and lastly --- due to the 1 Billion people that are now likely to rapidly acquire Omicron in the next 4 months --- the chances of further mutations ramps up in direct proportion to the number of affected infected hosts

-----------------------------------

Hotel/Restaurant/Travel related cancellations have grown apace in the last few days as more switched on people take their own actions to try to avoid infection

buywell expects such types of cancellations will accelerate next week and further accelerate through the xmas period

buywell would urge any advfn reader reading this post to start getting their food delivered to their home and not run the risk of supermarket visits --- masks do NOT stop a virus like this --- even top surgical grade masks offer only 85%/90% protection --- which in itself is no good

Data will soon come out imo that says the viral load of this Omicron variant to effect transmission is lower than Delta by a factor of two

Not true. The host only has to survive long enough to pass on to the next victim. Many covid victims are dead - after passing on to many many others.

New antibody treatment that makers claim can tackle omicron approved by UK regulator

Xevudy (sotrovimab), made by pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), has been found to cut hospital admission and death by 79 percent

A drug treatment which, the makers say, works against the new Omicron variant of Covid-19, has been approved by UK regulators.

Xevudy (sotrovimab), made by pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), has been found to cut hospital admission and death by 79% in those at risk.

The monoclonal antibody has been authorised by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency for people with mild to moderate Covid-19 who are at high risk of developing severe disease.

It comes as GSK and Vir Biotechnology said preclinical data shows the drug "retains activity against key mutations of the new Omicron Sars-CoV-2 variant".

The UK Government has ordered around 100,000 doses of the drug.

Companies are designing next-generation antibodies modeled on those taken from unique individuals whose immune systems can neutralize any COVID-19 variant-and related coronaviruses, too..How many are 'unique' ?.The vast majority of the global population imo.Too late for those jabbed with GM vaccine and mRNA gene therapy and now your getting ' super Antibodies'

"abdullla - I think that this virus will eventually mutate into something akin to the common cold"

With Omicron it nearly has! Omicron is less fatal than Delta, Delta has a 99.5% recovery rate for under 55s, 99.995% for under 20s.

Hardly the end of the world stuff.

abdullla - I think that this virus will eventually mutate into something akin to the common cold. A virus does not survive by killing its hosts. The mutations will enable it to become more infectious, but less harmful.
