Gecko. Not saying Emma is doing a good job far from it . I’m saying she is doing what shareholders want and that is to split the company.

As for Elliott , government has made its position clear ‘no takeover by a foreign co.’

Regardless of all that , shareholders are not happy bunny’s .

There are two major conflicting arguments from my post - what is best for the business and what, in crude terms, are asset stripping gains for shareholders.

The business will suffer from any split. IMO take out up to 2 years which would be my estimate from each of the G+W acquisition and the GW+SKB merger (maybe longer). In today's R&D world that is a long time - too long.
Better IMO to refocus on the core businesses and sell off what does not fit.

It would not be hard to come up with 50 people better at running this company than EW.
Trouble is most of them are men and have a background in pharmaceuticals. That rules them out then.....

Is she? I don't want the company split. I didn't want her in charge either as knew it'd be a disaster.

As to Elliott powerless/Govt behind GSK, wouldn't be so sure. So far we do not know what stake Elliott has, nor who is supporting them bhind closed doors..

Gecko. Not sure that's necessary. Government is now fully behind GSK so Elliott is now totally powerless . It doesn't look like he got much support from other substantial holders either.

Emma is doing what she said she would and what shareholders asked for and split the company.

Agreed. Perhaps a merger with AZN? Or another UK Pharma/Biotech to create a bigger "national champion" might be a route sought.....

Gecko. Just read that article , it would suggest any hostile takeover is out of the question given government opposition.

US hedge fund sparks alarm over takeover move

The government is concerned about a potential takeover of GlaxoSmithKline in the wake of investment by an American activist hedge fund and has asked officials to monitor the situation.

And........ AstraZeneca's (AZN) COVID-19 vaccine has received the greenlight from regulators in Japan, however, traders failed to approach the news with much cheer as the stock traded flat on Friday. The move, which also includes the approval of the Moderna (MRNA) vaccine, will now allow the country's sluggish vaccine rollout programme to gain pace.....
