EI , having said that I see Terry Smith has dumped his Diageo holding due to the boom in weight-loss jabs. |
We need some old fashion numbers here, market cap, dividend, net cash per share and expected EPS for 2024 and 2025, who's got all the details to hand? |
EI, I think it's as simple as missing it's numbers added to an unusually cautious statement. It's been punished.... 3%+ dividend at tonights close
Not at quite the same severity but SBRY and MKS both updating this week have had their shareprices whacked. Reeves responsible for all of this. A rotten government.
Giant Edinburgh Greggs opens at busy shopping centre with indoor seating |
Healthy options?Better off eating the packaging. |
That may well be the case. But that doesn't mean that the shares are worth buying at the price offered |
Michelle74 10 Jan '25 - 17:19 - 4966 of 4969 0 2 0 Very good price to stock up on
Just because it's cheaper than last week by a fair amount, doesn't make it a buy.
Greggs is an illiquid stock and if we go into another 2008 style GFC then Greggs could probably expect to half from here as unemployment rises, Government social spending rises and interest rates rise to stop the pound collapsing, that's one hell of a domino effect to imagine that would see UK debt rise further and not worth thinking about. The only thing in our favour regarding the last point is that US and European debt is similar but that doesn't stop the multi-billionaires in the US deciding to attack the UK currency. There will be huge swings in the market and best to trade liquid stocks you can get out of if things do take a turn for the worse. |
barious, there's plenty of good healthy options now available at Greggs ! |
presumabably because Greggs is a quality company |
Why do you say that? |
Very good price to stock up on |
Phil, any view on today's discussion..? |
Last one out turn off the lights ;-) |
OK, fair enough, although keep in mind you are expressing a personal preference for food choices, which is not necessarily how a potential investment is assessed.
You can walk in to any supermarket in the UK and multiple aisles are stacked with highly processed 'fake' foods, rather than unprocessed or minimally processed whole foods. |
Yes, that's true enough Essential. It's amazing how people queue up to eat this poor quality product - presumably because it is cheap and they don't care how unhealthy it is. Still uber bearish! |
This has been dramatically de-rated in under 6 months.
Question is whether a secular change in trading profitability is underway and at a still early stage.
That's a very big call to make though. |
barius, from memory you were uber bearish on GRG at significantly lower levels..
I'm not having a pop, we all make incorrect calls. |
Gosh! It was so lucky for those directors that they sold before the price crashed here. |
Last post on this from me as there are other factors to also consider and I don't wish to dominate the discussion with one topic. |
Or a slow release implant? |
Dave, I'm not an expert on weight loss medication, the following is an online answer to the question of how these new medications work..
glutide (Wegovy) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro) work by mimicking a hormone that makes you feel full and reduces your appetite. They are taken as weekly injections and are usually prescribed when diet and exercise alone aren't enough. How they work Mimic a hormone: These drugs mimic the action of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), a hormone released after eating that makes you feel full. Slow digestion: They slow down how quickly food is digested, so you feel full longer. Reduce blood sugar: Some of these drugs, like semaglutide, can also reduce blood sugar by promoting insulin
I would expect injectables may be replaced by tablet form with future advances?. |
EINot all weight loss injections reduce appetite, some simply increase metabolism thus they could in theory eat the sane if not more. |
Greggs starting to feel a tad expensive, for what it sells. Even McDonald's breakfast deal cheaper, and their coffee better. |
mr bernard castle - its just algorithmic trading, machines - the humans are still in bed. |
Hi EII would imagine regular customers who are classified as obese will continue to go to GRG, they are likely to increase their intake if they are also on weight loss injections. IMO it won't make a difference. GRG are very innovative and will accommodate any fads / trends and gain income / profitability as a consequence.More UK outlets than MacD, where next!!! |
