09/3/2016 08:06 | Scrolling through the news the Accident happened in a mine which is currently out of Commission for eighteen months undergoing maintenance work. Reading through some previous posts here there is talk of loss of production causing the sell off? Not sure what that is about.. | valuerebel
08/3/2016 19:30 | careful The accident at one of Katanga Mining's open pit mines in the DRC is grim and adds to Glencore's poor safety record in that country. As you said it probably accounts for a portion of today's large retrace. | rvsy38
08/3/2016 18:32 | you have not mentioned the copper mining disaster experienced by Glen today. part of the fall today must be related to it. 2 dead, others missing. | careful
08/3/2016 18:09 | Guess you don't like the police runaway Paul ? | rickyvader
08/3/2016 17:17 | Hectorp -- good to have you here. I learnt a long time ago that anything is possible. I just trade both long and short; mostly do okay but I do get it wrong just like all investors / gamblers :-) | younasm
08/3/2016 17:06 | NMRN - best post I've seen today. Thanks for the laugh. | drattuts
08/3/2016 17:04 | Forwood man, 33, 50 61 and some other Fib numbers around there, I'm only saying, that the rapidity of the rise from 70, can have an equally rapid correction. I'm not saying it will have a 50% correction in a week, but why not really. Its like physics. FTSE, GOLD, BP, BAE, big items with massive momentum, will not fall 33% in short order, but GLEN could. But looking on the bright side, if Iron ore and copper continue to recover ( is it due to shortages) then todays fall will be short lived. | hectorp

08/3/2016 17:03 | bulls make money bears make money pigs get slaughtered. | runwaypaul
08/3/2016 17:01 | Herd mentality it maybe but it is not PI's - there's no way they could swing FTSE stocks like this. It is a crazy situation though. Some regulation on HFT's and Hedgies is needed. | isis

08/3/2016 16:57 | Quite a day today! Glencore loses £4.46 billion of its market capital in one day! Really! This is not a market for serious investors, purely a casino where the dice are with you or against you. I have been "investing" for 40 years and have never seen anything like the ridiculous, herd mentality trading we have now. Can you imagine if they interview Ivan Glasenburg tonight? I suggest it could go something like this............ So, Ivan, your Company is worth £4.46 billion less tonight. What impact will that have on your future plans? It's a huge setback. To lose almost 20% of the value in one day is massive. The shares haven't been this low since ooh....... 0900 hrs last Thursday. Obviously the long term plan remains the same. To build shareholder value and deliver massive profits which are more than 8% mine but in the short term...............h Why not Ivan? Because they're crepe! Re-set the clock to Thursday and lets go. All IMHO | not my real name
08/3/2016 16:38 | tssmith, agree, proper retrace to test recent fibs. Glen came up strong and fast, so a 33% drop in short order is reasonable. I'n not talking gold now, moving on. | hectorp
08/3/2016 16:36 | thank you careful I've been loaded up for some years so I'm not really a trading participant like some. What, is behind the phenomenon of powerful rises in copper and iron ore pricing, that has boosted GLEN? I would love to know that. Adding to the above, he suggests the gold bear market isn't over, yet fails to realise that the recent bear market is over 20% longer and deeper than any of the last Century's gold bear to bull markets. In other words, gold is seriously awaiting a real rally. But I better not say, I told you so guys. ! Join us on the gold and silver threads. H | hectorp
08/3/2016 16:31 | Retracements are healthy | tsmith2
08/3/2016 16:25 | beware hect, this market makes fools of us all. they may yet get their cheap gold. stranger things have happened. it only takes the hedge fund boys to decide to have a short attack on gold, via ETFS or CFD's and it will happen. | careful
08/3/2016 16:12 | Careful chaps Tomorrow morning hammering, then it will reverse mid morning. Profit taking has started too. Possibly 120p in morning stampede IN BR WE TRUST. | bad robot |
