Markus has more than 25 years experience in automotive electrical engineering and joins GKN from Magna, where he was leading electric and hybrid vehicle innovation as director of product area electrification. He studied electrical engineering at the University of Technology Vienna, with special focus on control of electrical drives. In addition to Magna, Markus has also worked for Siemens as well as running his own electrical engineering consultancy. GKN has played a role in the provision of electric mobility and its electric axle technology features on hybrid vehicles including the BMW i8, BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, Volvo XC90, Peugeot 3008, Mitsubishi Outlander and Porsche 918 Spyder. "I am joining GKN at an exciting time as it has plans to be the clear leader in electrified drivelines," said Schermann. "Next generation eDrive systems will be more integrated than ever before and offer greater functionality, which obviously requires sophisticated electrical engineering. "I will work with GKN's existing software & electronics engineering team to develop the systems of the future. "GKN has a history of evolving, adapting and staying one step ahead of the competition. It is an organisation with a 250-year history, but always with a view on the future and that was one of the compelling reasons to join." Their summary states:- "With the global population growing in number and wealth, transportation remains a key investment priority for rapidly expanding countries all over the world. As a market leader in technology for both cars and planes, we'd expect the engineer to be a big beneficiary of this structural growth and a forward PE ratio of 10 dropping to nine, along with a decent yield, does not do these prospects justice.
