14/5/2011 10:57 | Current status with the 4 AVIVA prefs all cumulative but irredeemable. # AV.A 8.75% - 112.5p-114.75p Yld on the offer share price = 7.62% # AV.B 8.375% - 108.0p-110.25p Yld on the offer share price = 7.60% # GACA 8.875% - 110p-112.0p Yld on the offer share price = 7.92% # GACB 7.875% - 100p-103.5p Yld on the offer share price = 7.61% NOTES: AV.A & GACA both went XD this month. AV.B & GACB will go XD in August. GACA have substantially repaired the temporary undervaluation; and, though XD just this week, they remain the best value of the 4 prefs. | skyship
12/3/2011 11:39 | Continuing my Public Service announcements on the 4 AVIVA prefs all cumulative but irredeemable. # AV.A 8.75% - 115.5p-117.75p Yld on the offer share price = 7.43% # AV.B 8.375% - 105.25-107.5p Yld on the offer share price = 7.79% # GACA 8.875% - 111.5-114.25p Yld on the offer share price = 7.77% # GACB 7.875% - 99.0-101.25p Yld on the offer share price = 7.78% NOTES: AV.B & GACB went XD on 2nd Feb'11. AV.A continue to look overpriced. GACA have substantially repaired the temporary undervaluation, but are still the best value of the 4 prefs. AV.A & GACA are the next couple to go XD - that will be 4th May for AV.A & 11th May for GACA. | skyship
01/3/2011 10:09 | As per my Post Nos. 198 & 199 at end Jan; we are pretty much on track with the share price up 3.4% and the price gap with AV.A halving over that period. Of course, they are still undervalued v. AV.A so GACA outperformance expected to continue... | skyship
07/2/2011 10:30 | An annuity is a hole in one pocket which your lifetime savings fall out, with the consolation of finding a few pennies appear monthly in your other pocket. That "consolation" has to be declared to the taxman, and when you die the good pocket goes in your grave whilst the bad pocket goes to your heirs. | mac15
07/2/2011 00:15 | I suspect your last post is a little closer to the truth than we are supposed to believe. what the hell is an anuity anyway?? I think its a sort of lumpy growth some people get on their bottoms in old age but dont quote me on it. | envirovision
06/2/2011 22:07 | I suspect if it did have a smaller spread and was more liquid the price would effectively double instantly and ruin a great earner for those on the inside of the industry. what the hell is an anuity anyway?? | eric gardener
06/2/2011 22:05 | enviro - I'd be glad to help out! that idiots guide is probably one I wrote. with gaca - ok I have a bit of a gripe, I expect this thing to have a much smaller spread and actually go up when buying is massively outweighing selling. It does neither of those things which seem to me to be suspicious. I'm comparing it unfairly to liguid ordinary shares. silly me. But the old timers on here are right time is your friend with these and the longer the better. With the tranche I bought (bearing in mind I have no one really to blame I knew all the facts about spread etc well in advance) after the next div I should be about break even I hope. It will have taken 8 months and hopefully as long as the price doesn't plummet I should be looking at profit from the next div onwards. To me the broker doesn't want you to buy this as it is as buy-and-hold as you could get, but if you can stomach the bad points then it isn't a bad investment. | eric gardener
04/2/2011 22:43 | Yea i never really understood annuity. I have read the idiots guide to stupidity cover to cover twice now but i still don't understand the attraction of taking 6% till you die and its gone, when instead you could take 8% till death instead and when you die you get to pass it onto your heirs for them to enjoy. Can some one explain it to me? Maybe Eric can help me out ??? | envirovision
04/2/2011 22:01 | EG-Yes the spread on these prefs is very poor and makes short term purchases or trading difficult. You didn't mention a bigger problem that on market scares (eg euro collpase" the MMs stop buying so your stuck with your stock. However 8% income after tax is your reward. With a pension annuity you throw your money away, get 6% which is then taxed. Therefore GACA is fairly priced! | mac15
03/2/2011 10:05 | mac15 - Quite right, the other prefs could trade down to the GACA yield level, they could all converge in the middle. Who knows? No-one of course! For me it is just a case of buying the 8% yield whilst on offer due to anomalous pricing. They are now trending better, especially after yesterday's 13 buys (no sales) totalling 171k. Now 109p-112p. At 112p the yield = 7.9% | skyship
02/2/2011 11:46 | ticking up, BBM also ticking up even BWSA ticking up. Sadly bwsa far to risky thanks to irish banking crooks.. | envirovision
02/2/2011 09:46 | Considering switching back to these from the main shares. Exited Av.b to Av. some months ago as at that time Av was a compelling bargain. However Gaca (highlighted) by Skyship is now cheapest of th av prefs. However others could correct downwards ! instead of Gaca going up. Main worries on these is spread, future interest rates and inflation. Any views on current value? | mac15
29/1/2011 08:17 | when next divi due? ex date and payment date? | eric gardener |
