The 2nd washplant that will double Ruby production will cost abt $60m which they already have in cash and will pay for itself in about a year. Rubies represent about 65% of sales as they are much rarer and more expensive than emeralds.

So even without booming gemstone prices Gemfields will grow fast.

The JSE insist that a maiden dividend is described as special. Having met the company they assured me that they do plan to pay regular dividends in future, returning excess cash to shareholders. I would therefore expect an interim and final dividend plus a payment when their share of Sedibole Platinum is floated later this year, returning as much as 4p per share. The only capex planned is a new wash plant that will double Ruby production.

Why was the 1.7p dividend paid recently in respect of the 2021FY, declared as a Special dividend? Does that mean there is no assurance it will be maintained going forward? Is there some company bye law that sets out a maximum allowable dividend, based on some parameter such as fcf, or a % of unallocated cash?

Liberum note. Ruby auction result on 17th June,

Gemfields* (BUY, TP 34p from 33p) – Records on records (7 pgs)
Gemfields has reported another record set of auction results, this time for its high quality
emerald goods. Sales of $43.3m beat our estimate of $30.8m, lifting FY EBITDA by 8%. Similar to the
commercial quality auction in March, the indicators are pointing to a tight market despite the drop in
consumer outlook: better pricing, more companies placing bids, 100% of good sold. Stock remains
mispriced and expect it to double over the next twelve months.

Great results Saracen, thank you for all the information flows. It's lovely to have a board which isn't over-run with idiots and negative comments.

Half the fall is xd dividend. Emerald auction result on Thursday 26th May should lead to re-rating. Then rubies a month on. Looks like 26% holder has been picking up more stock, maybe a bid coming.

Is synthetic ruby valuable?
They are identical in their chemical composition, but lab-created rubies are less expensive than natural ones and unlike natural rubies, they are not flawed.

Are synthetic gems cheaper?
Image result for are synthetic gems a good investment
Synthetic diamonds are cheaper than mined diamonds by about 20 to 40 percent on average. Man-made gems share the same physical and chemical properties as natural diamonds.

Do gems go up in value?
As a rule, gems increase in value at the rate of inflation. This means you should assume that a bad deal today will be a bad deal in 3 weeks or 3 years when you eventually sell.
