Interesting to read companies announcements that are diamond orientated rather than 'coloured gems'.There are phrases like 'softer trend' and 'gentle decline',in connection to diamonds,I notice, and certainly their graph has suffered accordingly.
We are bang on trend here.
Also for me the fact that we are sourced in a friendly way is preferable for my style.

We have two further ruby auctions coming up.
This is the view from Investec concerning the last emerald auction thanks to Goldminer70 on i i i.

Investec View: 'An encouraging emerald auction from a US$/carat perspective. We suspect that the better quality stones made available were sold in light of the fact that 19 of the 26 lots offered were sold comprising 38% of the stones available for sale. The real value generation at Kagem comes from the high quality stone auctions that typically account for around 70% of the value of the product from the mine, and for which we have continued to see strong price appreciation.'

Nice to see the price starting to move above the 50p which has been seen as good value and resistance several times in the past.
Onwards and upwards!

This is a good company and Ian H is really on top of his job. I think the vogue for coloured stones will be a longer cycle lasting many years.
So I am pretty happy for the future.

Thank you for the reply John Weaver.

Good to have a view expressed.
I don't understand what you refer to as 'having advanced notice' however ?
An announcement was made by Gemfields on the 24th February that the interim results would be on the 9th March.
The volume clearly reflects that and is quite normal in my experience.
They proved the naysayers wrong, when they were criticised for paying to o much for Faberge way back but in fact sales, profits and visibility have increased.
You have to pay for quality.
I would agree though, nothing is without its risk.
The main risks for me are general stock market, related.
Specific to Gemstone however, are the continuation of the fashion for coloured gemstones.
I think they already prepared for that though and with the advent of the watches,is it 20th March? I forget, and the launch of the new Faberge Egg -( how exciting!) it will be interesting to see how they cope with a change of fashion when it happens.
However at present, coloured gemstones seem to be firmly 'in vogue' and Faberge is well-renowned the world over!
Thanks

hazl thanks for your summary, I think you are right that the company has a good future. I really look forward to seeing a new egg.
however I have a couple of doubts about the management. Small doubts but .....

They still, I think, have a huge inventory at Faberge shop. Pallinghurst transferred so much stock that it would take about 10 years to sell it if sales remained at the same rate.
Nobody should hold that much in a storeroom. Will that jewellery be dismantled or sold at a discount so that the money can be used actively in the business.
The second problem is that these results were released to the market on Monday 9 March.
But, look at price on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th. Volume trebled that of the days in the week before, price pushed higher.
So did someone somewhere have advanced notice?
