Friday is the date for the Lesotho mining ministers decision for the shortlist for Mothae, looks like the market thinks Gem is in with a good chance.

That's a very nice break out and change of trend. Should be plenty more now as there is nothing technical in the way and fundamentals will push it up too. All very rosy at the moment.

Up c.40% in the past month. I see Petra Diamonds have announced they will be providing a trading update on April 26th.

Can never be sure. But I think it's highly likely. In fact, I think we are already seeing the beginning. That will only compound the gains for the reasons you state.

I am not sure about that Andy.

What I am sure of is that the diamond mining sector has been sold off (down more than 80% since 2008) and ignored for such an extended period that we have ended up with some very anomalous pricing.

Everyone has sold without any regard to the ratios or fundamentals (you don't look at the financials and ratios when you are selling). This indiscriminate selling off of the sector has resulted in GEMD with the weakest valuation of the diamond miners .

The valuation now is in my opinion a once in a life time opportunity. Why ? Because the company is financially sound and because GEMD has been profitable for 7 out of the last 8 years (It has even grown profits over the last 3 years)

As for a precious stones boom I do not know Andy. What I do know is that Letseng is unique in throwing up the most valuable large type2 pure white diamonds on the planet with enough irregular regularity (if you get my drift) to keep the world's billionaires queuing up to pay top dollar regardless of whatever the rest of the diamond market is doing.

It is a very unique hole in the ground

There is more to this than just this particular company I think. I suspect a precious metal/stones boom is imminent.

Alrosa contemplating diamond ETF. Alrosa (ALRS RX) began consultations with brokers on exchange-trading in precious stones. A joint project with the Moscow stock exchange may start with investment-grade diamonds in a deliverable futures format. Alrosa also plans to launch unilateral auctions on one of the Russian stock exchanges for the sale of rough diamonds and technical stones. Source: Kommersant and SNL

Investec view: We consider this to be a very good move by Alrosa as it may generate further demand for diamonds and will possibly monetise some of the stockpiles that have built up in recent times. Diamond prices may have turned the corner, as evidenced by De Beers latest sight where prices reportedly strengthened 2%, we look toward Anglo announcing the results of the sight shortly.

I am surprised at how slow this is at re-rating. It still seems to be flying well under the radar. I have a price target of 250p which I think is absolutely realistic. I think it will get there eventually. Even if it goes at 1% per day!

Appropriate valuation would be 3/4 of the PE of PDL.

closed above the 200 mda, lets hope it can hold above for a few days. Last time it just bounced of it. Maybe just maybe the downtrend will get broken
