LNG carrier earmarked for Malta FSU jobAn LNG carrier has been selected to serve as a floating storage unit (FSU) for the Gasol-led import project being developed for Malta.Details of the vessel chosen have yet to emerge but a spokesman for one of the project shareholders confirms one has been secured. An official for project partner Socar Trading, which has been handling the search for and chartering of an LNG carrier, did not respond to a request for comment.Previously, Gasol has indicated the project requires a vessel of around 125,000 cbm, which will be chartered in for an 18-year period. The project's start-up schedule, however, appears to have slipped back from September 2015 to March 2016.ElectroGas Malta, comprising Gasol, Socar Trading, Siemens Projects Ventures and Maltese outfit GEM Holdings, was selected by Maltese state power utility EneĀmalta as the preferred bidder to arrange the supply and import of LNG to Malta for power generation. The partners will use an FSU docked off the east Maltese town of Delimara and an onshore regasification plant of 55 million cubic feet per day (MMcfd) to 60 MMcfd to supply Enemalta's existing 149-megawatt (MW) power plant, which the state outfit will convert to run on gas. In addition, the consortium partners will build and supply gas to a new 200MW independent generating facility.Elsewhere, Gasol says it has also moved forward on its floating LNG import project for Benin in West Africa, which will use either an FSU together with a barge or a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU). The company announced that it has inked a long-term gas-supply agreement with Ghana's power-generating company, Volta River Authority. This follows the signing of a joint-venture agreement with Ghana National Gas Co to co-operate on the marketing of imported gas from Benin and to develop a pipeline or transport system to Ghana.Gasol says it now has sufficient agreements in place to progress the development of its Benin-headquartered LNG import and regasification facilities. Socar Trading is lined up to supply the initial LNG volumes.Replying to questions, Gasol, chief operatin officer Alan Buxton said he could not comment on the preferred floating solution for the project as negotiations are still underway. Buxton says the first gas delivery to Benin is currently targeted for the end of 2015.

It looks like May got off to a slow start but gradually became more lively. The challenge is now switching to June. Which oil stocks do you think will make an impact???

All the parts of the jigsaw puzzle being assembled just need the gas supply and ship to build the picture.very slow but great potential.

What a load of twaddle. Money out after money out. Where does Malta and voltage regulators fir in with the stated aim of Gasol? Gasol; a tool for its (vast) majority shareholder IMHO.

Quite an uninspiring picture painted there. It reads as though the collectivist (Nigerian colonial?) idea of the pipeline comes a poor second to coastal states wanting a high degree of independence when it comes to sourcing their gas. Still, I like the reminder in the last line.

"AfGen is currently a wholly owned subsidiary of Gasol's major shareholder, African Gas Development Corp"

Not that Mr Buxton will need to be reminded.

AfGen signs joint-venture agreement for Ghanaian FSRULooks like timeframes are being moved."The development of the Benin FSRU, however, still appears at a relatively early stage. Its timeline depends on necessary agreements and financing being in place only after which it could be active 18 months later, Gasol's COO Alan Buxton told ICIS on 23 April. That would place the current timeline for first LNG imports into west Africa in 2016 at the earliest."http://www.icis.com/press-releases/afgen-signs-joint-venture-agreement-for-ghanaian-fsru/

"If we can get the pieces in place then the board can start to look at the value of AfGen," Buxton said.

As if they haven't already been told very clearly by the owners.

The "in-house" team are at it again. Let's give the privately owned AFGEN some sort of value so that wealth can be transferred out of the publicly quoted GASOL.

GBAll seems a bit "in house" with regards the deal, doesn't sit too comfortably with me.I was expecting an update from electrogas in march regarding finalisation if LNG deal. Think they are having some opposition to the positioning of the FSRU.

There seems to be a link here between GAS and BLVN. I note that the deal that fell through was with GDF Suez. The same GDF Suez that has been linked with BLVN's exploitation agreement with the Cameroon Government. When the deal fell through it caused a rethink with that agreement, hence the unseemly rush with the 50th anniversary celebrations and no announcement. I wonder where this will lead?

They made 2m less expenses from that little exercise. Given the owners' interests and contacts in Cameroon I'd say this frees them up to have a look there now.
