GFRD have settled with the Scottish government. I wonder if this will affect the proposed special dividend.

Encouraging that they state that this is the first contract win of others in Cardiff. Sounds good for the pipeline.

Thanks Breezer. Yes i have heard that a few times from others that have met them, too.
I think you lot will all do very well. Already you’re up 25% YTD and that excludes the dividend.

I’m invested in another situation similar to this but I think the stock will fly now that the contract issue has been resolved.

You will deserve it because this is a business and a sector that’s so universally hated and therein lies the opportunity - everybody is underinvested. The valuation is pathetic but that will resolve itself and considering the downside protection, the risk adjusted nature of the return on offer here is superb.

Catabrit - I've been in upwards of 20 meetings with management and I can tell you they're incredibly consistent in their obsession with not taking excessive risk, and pricing the risk they do take, well. They have walked away from many contracts that don't fit their risk appetite, and made it very clear they'll continue to do so.

That's the main reason I'm comfortable to be invested here for the long term, to try to take advantage of what I perceive to be a very low valuation as the market wakes up to this and learns to forget how the old management team ran the business!

That is a fair point Catabrit about the road scheme. My thinking on the building win was more about its high profile. I am sure that the new management will have costed it for a profit or be it small in overall scale.

I’m not sure I would want too many of those contracts to be honest albeit Morgan Sindall demonstrate that lots of smaller contracts can work if you price the risk accordingly.

What was more important this week (at least from my perspective) was the news that they came off a road scheme which is now being re-tendered. I think they came off it because of rising costs so that demonstrates good discipline / risk management and that bodes well for shareholders.

They must have stressed “balance sheet strength” about ten times. They’re clearly under a lot of pressure to do a buyback or return more capital to shareholders. But yes I agree this is very undervalued and offers a good risk reward.

Great potential here.
Many investors still nervous about this sector because of its past history.

GFRD well positioned to grow.

Not the biggest but £11.5m claim against Galliford can proceed according to a recent court ruling. Mentioned in New Civil Engineer.

Haha, just downplaying it. Solid is great, but yes I admit, excellent half year report. As usual only a small rise on the bell!
