As for FST. Well hopefully this update clears th decks a little more. May trading statement reaffirmed. No nuggets / no positives. But no new nasties . Market cap is £19m which is nuts

Nasty,in any case he is unlikely to sell as bought at around 170, so no point.
I agree with Monty in that the RNS could have Ben much worse, Sethill is famous for caution and understatement,

The markets FST are in are massive, it depends how much of them they can take advantage of.

After dropping 75% I thought that was a more reassuring rns. Probably expect price to be up rather than down.

Only have 25% of my original holding left. Might contemplate buying back in once price stabilises as feels overdone.

Like Sensium, the next step is to sell off their audio business for 1M too. Awful company and board. wish i'd never set eyes upon them.

Lastly, I can't see management that has much of their own cash invested here.

They could do with a strong active investor with a high % holding to keep them on their toes. Conspiracy theory only, but wonder if recent NED add is a first step in that direction.

Also, when economy does turn down (as it will) consumer spending on gadgets will be one of the first to feel the downdraught.

Would you spend on SmartHome (Audio) or keeping your home?

Some thoughts. Where is their pricing power?

Paul Taylor - might have been added at behest of larger holders to offer some true idependence on remuneration.

Amazon etc - they like data. Data is their lifeblood and the gift that keeps on giving once hardware is installed. Not at all convinced they like hardware, it's a loss leader. In other words, hardware is a disgusting business to ship into vs these companies. A fools game for quite a while until they have enough installed base and then there might be a chance. When?

DAB is relatively ok until volumes really take off and the likes of some larger semiconductor company (TI, Dialog etc) muscle in or buy FST.

We don't know what management have told larger shareholders behind closed doors. It does happen. Sell-off may have been on disappointment vs image painted in private.

SmartHome = commodity.

Outside of some volume potential, I don't see too much pricing power or reliable recurring revenue to bank on.

However, acquisition target and one to watch.
Recover unlikely to be quick.
I've bought into others with similar dynamics and share price performance in the past and nearly always too early!

Are they working on other newer areas as their existing segments have commoditized rapidly?

Any rumours of a funding round?

They look ripe to be bought and shaken down to remove bloat. Such falls are usually not rapidly reversed so it could be down a while unless they have something up their sleeve or a predator arrives.

Not knocking it as interested if it looks like it could turn around.
R&D spend cut, either they have achieved largely what they intended or are desperate. I like to see R&D prioritised not slashed in desperation.

A couple of links that may be of background interest. I don't follow very closely here - the business model seems to involve competing with the three A's - Alphabet, Amazon and Apple - which I'll happily leave to other investors - but the articles offer some insight into the ecosystem.

One can only assume that some corporate investors have forced him on the company.

"His wealth of experience as a Non-Executive Director will bring significant value to the Group as we continue to build our position in our core Audio markets and explore opportunities in the Smart Home sector."

'Significant'? Isn't that Sethillspeak for 'peanuts' just as 'modest' is Sethillspeak for 'share price collapse from 200 to 67'?

Perhaps Mumbles Sethill and Johnny Appetites could be so kind as to pay for the new gravy train rider from the ridiculous amounts they have looted in totally unmerited bonuses on two occasions and return the rest along with their share options and halving their bloated salaries - greedy, shameless, incompetent a$$holes!
